University of Southern California (Studio Jazz Guitar)
As an eclectic musician (rock/jazz/funk/country/classical) adept at juggling the daily challenges of teaching, performing, and recording, I'm confident I can help you or your child with whatever it is he or she wants to learn. In my seven years of experience with students of all ages, I have learned how to transmit my passion for music by engaging students on a personal level. My style is easy-going, humorous, and hardworking; perhaps because I remember my own early struggles in school, I have particular success with students who find it hard to concentrate during lessons or motivate themselves to practice at home. My pupils have ranged from the motivated to the “antsy” to the severely autistic, and in the teaching studio I have a reputation for being able to succeed with students who quit other teachers in frustration. My best work occurs in private sessions because I base my lesson structure on each student’s personality and find this helps me draw out something unique in everyone I teach.
I have been instructing and performing music since I was a teenager. In 2006 I entered USC’s Thornton School of Music on a merit-based scholarship, where I studied in the Studio/Jazz Guitar Program and also received training in piano, drums, bass guitar, conducting, pedagogy, songwriting, as well as the ful array of musicianship skills required by any top-tier music school. Since graduating with honors in 2010, I have held multiple teaching positions, with experience in both group classes and private lessons. I can teach any age, level, and style on guitar (acoustic and electric), bass and ukulele, and every level of music theory. I am also qualified to teach the foundational skills of piano and drums.
In addition to teaching, I am a performer and a solo artist who gigs regularly in local venues and who has toured with international artists such as Eliana Burki and the Brazilian guitarist, Capital. I have tracked guitar and bass parts for other independent artists, and last year I released my first full-length solo album, “No More Rain".

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I began writing songs as a teenager and my private instructor was very adamant that I had a knack for it. I also attended the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music where I received a full music education including composition in the classical and modern music traditions. Last year I released a full length album featuring ten of my original compositions.
I have been learning songs by ear since I was thirteen years old. At the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music I received two years of formal ear training classes and passed with flying colors. I continue to transcribe off of albums in my spare time.
I have played music everyday since I was thirteen years old. Through my formal training, professional experience and my own explorations I feel that I have experience in every aspect of music, be it performance, composition, business, touring, recording, or just playing for fun. I can do it all.
I have played guitar for the past 13 years. I studied formally for 10 years, received a bachelor's of music in guitar performance from USC's Thornton School of Music and I continue to learn on my own. I have toured the United States, Central America and Japan as both a side man and as a solo artist. I still practice and play on the instrument every single day.
