I'm Felicia. I am a recent CELTA graduate who is currently waiting for certification from Cambridge to be an adult ESL instructor. I have taught adults from the ages of 18 to 60 with my ESL training from pre-intermediate to upper intermediate with an overall reading, writing, speaking and grammar focus tailored to a students needs, strengths, and weaknesses. I believe in a student centered approach to teaching in order to give the students the understanding of why. My job is to get students thinking and reasoning for themselves and through a structured guided discovery plan I can get them to retain what has been taught. As a tutor if I just give students the answers without having them understand why and not getting them to retain the information then I haven't done my job.
I have a BFA Fine Arts from Brooklyn College and have shown and worked in galleries throughout New York City. I have worked with students from the ages of 12 to 25 to help them work on high school, art school, and college entrance portfolios as well as help them discover, develop and explore their own personal style as an artist and stick to a practice schedule. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I am qualified to tutor in painting because I am a professional studio artist with fifteen years of experience in this field. I have a BFA in Studio Arts from Brooklyn College with three years of painting as part of my curriculum as well as being the main part of my most of my exhibitions in the last six years. I have tutored thirteen people in the past three years in painting. My methods is to expose my students to as many different painting styles and methods as possible during a tutoring session. One day I might tell a student to paint free hand without any planning and the next session I will have a student paint what they see and another session I will have the student before hand plan and draw out the picture before the session and then go for it. To be a good painter you have to get out of your comfort zone and have as many methods as possible at your disposal to reach the next level and become better.
