In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have knowledge and expertise in Common Core Curriculum. When I was teaching at the DOE, we began utilizing Common Core the year before it was required. Recently, the students I tutor are using Common Core and I have remained abreast of the standards and expectations of the Common Core Curriculum. There were always Special Needs Students mainstreamed into regular classrooms. Throughout my career, I have had students with IEPs that I have taught with modifications. I also tutored 2 Special Needs Students. One of my students was a second grade non reader in September and by April he was reading beginning chapter books. In addition, I have a Special Needs Child of my own so I am very sensitive to the various and individual needs of children.
