My name is Andrew and I love to teach.
I am 22 years old and a student at Haverford College; my potential majors are English and Education. I took time off from my studies to pursue a calling in public service and education with City Year New York, an organization bent on combating the dropout crisis. After receiving a month of training, I worked inside and outside of the classroom tutoring, mentoring, and coaching students as a corps member in Sheepshead Bay High School. I believe strongly in the power of education and I absolutely love teaching.
Although I have completed my service year with the organization, I continue to teach in my spare time and still absolutely love it. I am now working with the American Stock Transfer and Trust Company as I figure out my return to school.
My favorite and best subjects have always been High School Mathematics (Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry) and English (Comparative Literature, Language Arts, Grammar, Comprehension). I also have experience tutoring one-on-one and in small groups as well as experience in a classroom as a teacher's assistant.
I believe in meeting the student where they are and varying my approach based on their needs. I also believe in fostering independence, instead of simply helping them find the answers.
I look forward to hearing from you! Hey,
My name is Andrew and I love to teach.

My mother language is not English, so I am having a hardship for preparing ACT. However, Andrew gave me a great help on it. He is so patient and explains every question clearly. I admired his exact and precise explanation. He also prints worksheet for me to fix my mistakes and to improve my English ability, which is pretty beneficial for my English study.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Math has been my favorite subject throughout my schooling and especially in high school (Algebra and Geometry). I scored a 640 on the SAT math section and have only continued to improve my skill set and reinforce my proficiency.
I have much experience and success teaching:
Linear Equations, Linear Inequalities, Quadratic Equations, Polynomials, FOILing, exponents, Pythagorean Theorem, Systems of Equations, Graphing, Slope and Slope-Intercept form, Rationalizing and Manipulating Equations and Expressions and working with radicals.
I am currently working in Sheepshead Bay High School tutoring students and helping them prepare for the Integrated Algebra Regents, a state-wide standardized test. I feel very comfortable with the material and can teach it with fluency and facility.
As an aspiring writer of short stories, I've always paid close attention to vocabulary, grammar, syntax and connotations as these are the literary devices most prominently found in fictitious literature. I love the power of words and the potential for expression inherent in language. Writing was my favorite aspect of English/ELA and my highest SAT score was in the writing section (690). I am very knowledgeable when it comes to grammar and am confident in my ability to pass on these skills. Language is the door to the world, and I can provide you with the key.
Since I work in a public high school, I sit in on a geometry class. My daily responsibilities include overseeing the lesson and clarifying facts or concepts for individual students who are confused. I also provide assistance and guidance when students are struggling with a concept or a problem. I help them build up their skill sets and methodologies so that they become efficient mathematicians. I also tutor students everyday in geometry regents prep. I feel confident in my abilities and my expertise includes but is not limited to:
Graphing on the Cartesian plane (and slope)
Distance and midpoint
Parallel and perpendicular lines
Triangles (Identities, Properties)
Congruency and Similarity
As a City year corps member working in a high school, I work with repeater algebra students who struggle with pre-algebra concepts such as: Integers, Fractions, Decimals, Properties of operations, the order of operations, factorization and exponents.
I tutor students every day in these concepts so that they have a proper foundation for the algebra they are now learning. I feel confident in my abilities to build up students' foundation in pre-algebra so that they are proficient and prepared for algebra.
