Hi, my name is Tai. I tutor students in New York City and online for middle school/high school/college math, as well as for the SHSAT, SAT, GRE, ACT, SSAT, ISEE, Calculus and all three Math Regents exams. I attended Duke University, where I graduated with a degree in Mathematics in 2009.

For the past four years, I have launched an education company helping middle schoolers gain admission into competitive high schools. I served as the Head of the Math division and as a test prep instructor responsible for curriculum design and delivery. In the process, I have accumulated over 10,000 hours of invaluable math teaching experience. It would be safe to say that I am an expert at this point. Show me a math problem that you're having trouble with -- I bet I have seen it before! Of course, there is much more to tutoring than "knowing your stuff." I have also learned highly effective ways to convey the knowledge and skills necessary for success on these standardized tests.

The tutoring that I offer is highly personalized. I form a test-prep plan based on the student's individual strengths and weaknesses. Progress is monitored through regular homework assignments. I also give students practice tests on a semi-regular basis in order to objectively measure progress and to gauge where instruction should be focused. The material I use consists of official exams that have been administered nationwide and at schools in the past.

Tutoring is not only my career; it is a passion. I take great joy in helping my students. My work, as I see it, goes beyond preparing them for standardized tests. It involves helping them to develop skills that will serve them not only on their tests, but also in their current middle school or high school classes, their future college classes, and their eventual lives beyond academia.

I recommend that sessions last for 2 hours, as this time length allows for the most effective tutoring. I meet with students in-home if they are located within 2 miles of me (11203) or in mutually convenient locations (i.e., coffee shops and libraries) in Brooklyn or lower Manhattan. Finally, for students who live outside of a convenient location, I offer tutoring via Skype.

Background/Credentials:I have a Mathematics degree from Duke University and an advanced Regents Diploma from The Bronx High School of Science.
I scored 100, 98 and 98 on my Sequential Math I, II and III High School math regents, in that order and I received a 5 on the AP BC Calculus exam, and a 760 on the SAT math section.
I have over 10,000 hours of tutoring experience and have worked with students from age 8 to age 65. I received formal training from Teach for America Summer Intensive Teacher Training Boot camp. I taught in the KIPP NYC Charter High School.
I teach GED math to adults who would like to advance their career at District Council 37

If you choose me as your tutor, you are getting a younger, vibrant educator with deep content knowledge and a knack for making math interesting and fun. Most importantly, you are getting high results and a person who is committed to your success or your child's success not just academically, but in other areas as well.

I received a 100,98, and 98 on my math regents. My GPA from Bronx Science was a 94 overall so I did very well in all content areas. No less than an 85 is 95% of my regents courses. I attended Duke where I majored in math and graduated with a 3.5 GPA. I have since started a tutoring company where I have helped over 150 students achieve success on regents math and science topics.

Great tutor

My son feels very comfortable with Taiesha A. and he is becoming more confident with math. Just after one lesson his teacher emailed to say he has finished his entire lesson in class.

Amazing Tutor!

I highly recommend Taiesha as a tutor. She worked with my daughter and gave her the confidence and the tools she needed to raise her score and excel on the Integrated Algebra Regents. We will be using her for Geometry tutoring, as well.
