Rutgers Univevsity (Political Science)
I am an experienced tutor specializing in French, ESL, writing, reading, the social sciences, and all elementary and middle school subjects. I graduated from Rutgers University with a 4.0 GPA in 2012. I am happy to work with children or adults.
This past year I privately tutored third graders in Brooklyn, primarily on the Common Core Math and English Language Arts exam. I also worked as a homework helper for middle school students in Manhattan. I'm great with kids; I am creative, patient and sensitive to differences in children's learning styles.
If you are a university or high school student, I can help especially with history, politics, the humanities, writing and French. My academic background is in Political Science and French, and I have tutored university students in the social sciences and expository writing. I occasionally volunteer as a reading and writing tutor for illiterate adults aged 30 and above. Much to my delight, two adults I worked with went on to pass the GED.
If you are a non-native English speaker, I can work with you on on your English writing, reading and speaking skills. I lived for a year and a half in France and taught in French elementary schools. I have a strong grasp on English grammar and writing.
In terms of French language tutoring, my position as a non-native French speaker allows me to better connect with English speakers who may struggle with unfamiliar concepts unique to romantic languages. Moreover, I took a course in phonetics and have a basic understanding of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). I use my knowledge of the IPA to help my students better understand the crucial differences between French and English pronunciation.
I care deeply about helping my students achieve their goals. I strive to create a positive and open learning environment in which my students are able to arrive at their maximum potential.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I taught in French elementary schools for one year. I was the English teacher for all classes, and worked primarily with children aged 4-12.
Last year I was a freelance tutor in Brooklyn and Manhattan. I worked with third graders who were preparing for the Common Core exam. We worked mainly on English Language Arts and Math. During this time I also was a homework helper for a 6th grader. I helped him with his homework assignments and time management.
