As a Teaching Artist, I believe that art provides an outlet to learn about critical thinking, problem solving, and to address and respond to greater issues of the human condition. I believe that in learning about materials and processes, students of all ages learn how to approach an idea with a large variety of responses, taking into thought the association that images project and the history of expression.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My expertise is in Contemporary Art History, Modern Art, Post-Modernism, and Western Art beginning in the Flemish Renaissance. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Savannah College of Art and Design, where I have recieved 30 credits worth of Art History. These classes included Survey of Western Arts I, Survey of Western Arts II, 19th Century Art, 20th Century Art, Art Since 1945, Museum Principals, and The History of Portraiture. As a painter, I constantly refer back to art history and continue my investigation of trends, techniques theories and practice. I went on to receive a Master of Fine Arts in Painting, where I continued my research on 16th century Flemish paintings, naturalist studies, and contemporary art theory. There, I taught 3 semesters of an art history class entitled Art Seminar, focusing on art and studio based developments since 1945. I currently am a teaching artist at Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts, where I teach exhibition based classes to patrons of all ages.
I am highly skilled in both realistic approaches to drawing as well as experimental. I have both a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting, and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing. Contemporary drawing often involves traditional rendering, and defining light sources, contrast, and composition. I encourage experimental mediums and approaches. While the field of drawing has a vast history, currently drawing is being expanded into new formats and forms of presentation, often including the use of various mixed materials and supports. My strength is in my constant investigation of the use of materials, as well as a knowledgeable background of techniques, history and contemporary approaches.
