About Kiho

Hi! My name is Kiho and I'm originally from Japan. I have worked as a music theory tutor, Japanese tutor, music teacher for elementary school classes, and a violin teacher. I believe every individual has their own method and preference for learning, therefore I always get to know my students well first and decide what is best for his or her personality. I also talk to the students and set goals of where they wish to be after few sessions so they all have something to look forward to and study for. I am not harsh nor very strict; I focus on having a good atmosphere with the students, but I will make sure the students reaches those goals that they have set. I want my tutoring session to be fun and exciting for the students so that they'd be eager to learn about the subject.

Here are my fields of expertise:
Music Theory (Classical, Jazz)
Music History
Ear Training
Sight Reading
Basic Piano
Elementary Math

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have experience teaching all of these subjects to college students during January 2010 until December 2010. I also have perfect pitch, which enables me to identify pitch without using any musical references.

I am a native Japanese speaker. I was born and raised in Japan for about 10+ years, but I am fluent in English, so I can explain concepts thoroughly. I also have experience teaching Japanese during my college years as my part time job.

I have been playing violin for 19 years, and won the Hong Kong 54th Music Festival Competition with Bach's No. 3 Sonata. My experience is playing in orchestral setting. I have experience playing as a principal violinist in the first and the second section in both orchestra and string ensemble setting. I performed as a featured soloist of Boston String Players at Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
I also taught violin to 10 year old kids as part of the high school's volunteer work, but I can also teach more advanced level of players
