Bard Graduate Center (Enrolled)
I love learning and sharing my passion for knowledge with others.
I graduated summa cum laude and in the top ten of my class at Hamilton College in May 2008 with a B.A. in French and art history. I was accepted to all of the undergraduate and graduate schools for which I have applied, and completed a M.A. in Design History, the Decorative Arts, and Material Culture at the Bard Graduate Center in 2012. Throughout my educational career, I have been the person people come to with questions and I have a lot of formal teaching/tutoring experience as well. Writing is a particular strength --I even tutored writing in French. I am also ESL (ESOL) Tutor Certified from Hamilton College; I tutored English at the local center for refugees. I currently teach in several history museums in New York City.
I'm now located in NYC, but am very open to remote tutoring with students in my home state, Colorado. I was in the Colorado school system from K-12, so I'm very familiar with the curriculum. I have always been an A student (except in gym! oops!) and love working hard. I did well on both the SAT, ACT and GRE, especially in the verbal/writing sections. I received my IB diploma from Lakewood High School in 2008. I love learning and sharing my passion for knowledge with others.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I earned a BA (summa cum laude) in art history in May 2012 with departmental honors. The faculty also awarded me a prize for excellence in the subject. I am enrolled in an art history Master's program that starts August 2012. I also have museum internship experience from the Munson Williams Proctor Museum of Art in Utica, NY as well as at the Molly Brown House in Denver, CO. Art history is my biggest passion.
Drawing is a way of seeing the world.
I've been drawing my whole life. I took International Baccalaureate studio art in high school and a drawing course in college where my work was highly praised by the professor. I also took a studio drawing and painting course at the Académie de Port Royale in Paris, France. I look forward to passing these experiences on to you or your student.
I am a strong writer in English, and equally strong in my second language, as demonstrated by the fact that the Hamilton College (Clinton, NY) French department created the French Writing Tutor post specifically for me. I have been recognized numerous times for my writing. Beyond praise from professors, I have been awarded a research grant, won a few academic prizes, and was accepted into all of the graduate schools for which I applied. More recently, I graduated with an MA and have had papers accepted into academic conferences. I absolutely love working as a writing tutor and look forward to working with you!
I am ESOL Tutor certified from Hamilton College. The certification process involved a course, but also active practice -spending 30 hours a semester acting as a second teaching presence in a classroom of ESOL learners. I took a mid/small sized group into another classroom where we did worksheets, sentence-building, pronunciation, vocabulary, and conversation practice. I really enjoyed my experience working at the local center for refugees and would love to work with you!
I received my BA in French from Hamilton College in May 2012 for which I wrote an honors thesis and earned departmental honors. I have been nominated to and inducted in the Phi Sigma Iota society for excellence in the study of language. I tutored French at college, both as peer-to-peer academic support and as a Writing Tutor. I lived with a host family in Paris for an academic year and have been repeatedly told by French natives that my French is good -that way you know I have a good accent ;) I also taught Elementary school children French for a semester in high school.
I have been machine sewing since 2002. I can draft and alter patterns and sew anything from pillows and curtains to prom dresses and fancy costumes. Half of my wardrobe is self made after my own designs or vintage patterns.
I've been in advanced scholastic programs all my life. From GT, to International Baccalaureate, to a honors at a top liberal arts college (where I worked part time and took extra classes), I have a great work ethic and long track record of organization, time management. These have all been critical in my academic advancement and I would enjoy helping others develop these valuable skills.
