I'm am a certified teacher who has taught grades K - 5 and had great results with my students. I am the type of person who really cares and never moves on to the next subject until that child really grabs the concept. If I notice a child is still having a problem with a particular subject, I will use materials to help him/her to better understand that subject especially math. If a child is having a problem with reading, I will definitely figure out what is the main problem is so your child can get the right help in that subject.
When I teach or help my students, I really pay attention to their needs and design plans that will help then succeed in school. One example of this would be the time I was teaching Kindergarten and they were first learning how to read. I used two methods to help them. I would make a chart of the letter of the week and they would have to come up with words that begins with that letter. Then, I would write it down on a big piece of paper and hang it up on the board so they would be able to add more words or just review what they have done. The other way was starting them on books that only deal with that letter. I would help them on Monday and send the book home with them so they can practice their reading; by Friday they were reading the book with no problems. At the end of the school year, parents couldn't believe that their child was reading, and they were thanking me. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked in a private school for 18 years. I taught Kindergarten through 5th grade. I taught all subjects. I take my time to make sure that my students have a good understanding of what they have to learn. I also make the lesson easy for them to understand and encourage them to ask questions if they don't understand something.
When I taught Phonics to my Kindergarten class I taught with letter books, making a chart for the letter of the week, and I practice with them everyday. I send the book home with the child to practice at home for homework. I also go over the words they came up with everyday and have them practice writing that letter in class. Each child has the opportunity to read the book to me. By the end of the year each child was reading at a first grade level.
I have worked with children for 18 years in a private school. When it comes to a test I do a complete review by asking them different questions that pertain to the specific subject matter. If they still don't understand I will spend more time on that specific area to make sure they understand what is being reviewed for the test. I also will give them homework to reread the chapter and answer the questions at the end of the chapter as well. Then we will go over the next day.
