About Rebecca

Hi. I'm Rebecca. I am a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and Brooklyn Law School. I have been tutoring on and off for over ten years now. I have tutored children and teenagers from 4 to 18 years old in subjects ranging from elementary school subjects to SAT, SAT II, and Advanced Placement (AP) test prep. In high school, I was a member of the National Honor Society and during college and law school, I was on the Dean's List.

In addition, I worked as a tutor at my university's writing center and I am comfortable assisting with college and graduate level work. I have an especially strong background in the humanities, writing (especially essay preparation), study skills, and test preparation. Since high school, I have tutored in a variety of subject areas including: Elementary and middle school subject areas, reading, writing, social studies/history, algebra/geometry, biology, SAT and AP test prep.

I have experience tutoring children with special needs including ADHD and autism spectrum disorders - working on subject areas and homework as well as Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) techniques and social skill development. I am comfortable working with many different types of learning styles and adapting lesson plans to fit the individual student's needs.

I would prefer to work with a student close to the Clinton Hill area or I can provide tutoring online via Skype if the subject matter and age of the student is a good fit. Depending on distance, I can work with a student for 1-2 hours a session, 1-2 days per week. Please feel free to contact me if you think I would be a good fit to provide tutoring to you or your child. I look forward to meeting and working with you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

During college at the University of Notre Dame, I took many classes while working toward a minor in Anthropology. I am happy to work with students studying various aspects of Anthropology and develop a tutoring plan specific to the student's needs.

Autism

I spent a year tutoring a young girl with autism, ADHD, and speech delays as part of a practicum experience for a psychology course on autism while I was a student at Notre Dame. In addition to tutoring, I assisted with developing practical skills using the Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) technique.

Basketball

I was a varsity basketball player in high school and have several years of experience coaching and refereeing basketball - specifically focusing on the fundamentals among elementary and middle school students.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have tutored K-12 students in various subject areas since I myself was a high school student. I have tutored math, reading, writing, history, and basic science to students in elementary, middle, and high school. I especially have a lot of experience with developing writing and reading comprehension skills. I also have worked with students on core mathematical concepts as well as preparing for pre-Algebra and beginning Algebra as well. I have tutored students with a variety of academic backgrounds - including students with attention problems or learning disabilities and students in Honors or Advanced Placement classes.

Special Needs

I have tutored several students with special needs. Most significantly, I spent a year tutoring a young girl with autism, ADHD, and speech delays as part of a practicum experience for a psychology course on autism while I was a student at Notre Dame. In addition to tutoring, I assisted with developing practical skills using the Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) technique. I also have tutored children with ADD and ADHD in core subject areas.

Wonderful Experience — Rebecca worked with my daughter for several months in Math. Prior to meeting Rebecca, my child was uncomfortable completing her Math assignments without help. Rebecca is very accommodating and prompt. She boosted my daughter’s confidence with positive reinforcement. Rebecca was able to break down the math problems to make it easier for my child to understand. Over time, she was able to go from a ...
