About Wesley

Are you stressed, anxious or worried about your performance? Do you sometimes find yourself asking "Why do I need to know this material?" I assure you, there's help! For over a decade, I've helped many. from pre-school to doctoral students, achieve success in their subjects. I can help you too! I can help you understand how you learn, how to bring down stress, bring up productivity, and give you tools to succeed in anything you do - starting now.
One of the tools I use is subject relevance. Subject relevance is at the core of my teaching. I believe if you can relate the subject to something you're already comfortable with, then the information will stay in your memory with more power than a week-old pizza stain on a white shirt. This technique is based on the knowledge that it's easier to link concepts through neuroplasticity than it is to dredge through and make whole new ideas altogether. So, lets's link those concepts together- let's get to staining neurons!

In case you want to know my background:

I am a medical doctor, with an undergraduate concentrations in biochemistry, molecular biology, biology, chemistry, immunology and microbiology. I placed a strong emphasis on molecular genetics research. During my time at the University of Miami, I received the Dean's List honor and presented my research at the Annual Florida Branch American Society of Microbiology conference. Professionally, I have tutored and consulted since 2005 and have been certified in basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support and international trauma life support by organizations including the American Heart Association and The American Academy of Pediatrics.

I offer a variety of services that go beyond what regular tutors offer and we can discuss those in detail as you so desire. Please see below for the most familiar subjects.

I appreciate the time you have taken to review my profile, and look forward to serving you in the near future. Send me an e-mail.

Kind regards,

Wesley R., M.D.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Genetics

I majored in biochemistry and molecular biology. 1 3 credit course on genetics with a 2 credit honors lab. I took a 3 credit 500 level molecular genetics course and i wrote 2 papers on advanced undergraduate research in molecular genetics based on 18 months of research.

Microbiology

My minor in Microbiology required several upper level courses including Virology, Microbial Pathogenesis, Immunobiology, Microbiology. I have tutored small groups and individuals in Microbiology at UM and FIU with great outcomes for those students. I also have researched in microbial genetics and have presented my research during the Florida Branch American Society of Microbiology Symposium.

Nursing

I am currently a final year medical student who has years of experience tutoring nursing students prepare for medical coursework as well as standardized testing, including the NCLEX.

Nutrition

As a medical student I am required to understand many subjects related to the field of health. I am well-versed in not only the fundamentals of nutrition, such as basic enzymatic reactions shared by all of use, but also how to identify diseases based on malnutrition and what sorts of measures are taken to mitigate damage done by diseases using nutrition. Courses that qualify me to tutor in nutrition include but are not limited to, Medical Biochemistry, Medical Genetics, Pathology, and Medical Nutrition.

Organic Chemistry

I have taken organic chemistry I and II with labs at the University of Miami.

Pharmacology

I am a medical student that has both academic and clinical experience with pharmacology and the treatment of patients. I have previously tutored small groups and individuals on pharmacological theories throughout medical school.

Study Skills

There is room for improvement in all of us! Since I began tutoring almost a decade ago, I have helped students perform better in their courses developing better habits and identifying strategies that make them better students overall. Central to developing better study habits is individualizing understanding of a student's own learning style. It logically follows that when a student learns how it is that they learn, the student can then become more efficient in their study tactics, and thus, make themselves better at it. This requires time, motivation, patience and determination. My unique study skill tips and techniques can help even the more disorganized students achieve success.

MIRACLE WORKER! — Before I fell in Wesley's hands I was literally two steps away from going insane...Chemistry just didn't seem to make sense at all, and I had gotten to the point where I stopped paying attention in class and began to slack. After tons of soul searching I came upon Wesley and in a very desperate call (which he answered immediately) managed to meet him the following day. After about five sessions no ...
