A little bit about me: I come from a Cuban household and I grew up speaking Spanish. I graduated in May 2012 from Swarthmore College with high honors in Theater and Spanish language literature. By the combination of my upbringing and my education, I possess both an intuitive and learned understanding of Spanish that enables me to better communicate both its rules and nuances to non-speakers.
I have a strong reading and writing background, scoring a near perfect score score in reading and comprehension on my SATs and consecutive 5s on all of my AP English and Literature exams. I hold various playwriting, awards including from the South Eastern Theater Conference and Florida Stage, and recently debuted my own one-woman show in the Philadelphia Fringe festival. From March through July 2013, I worked in as a private English instructor in Paris teaching small children and working adults alike.
I live to share my passions with others, and tutoring has become a fulfilling way to do just that.

Out of every tutor I have ever had, Lori is by far the best. For someone like myself who loves to study language, that is really saying something! If you are interested in learning Spanish, there is no one else I would recommend. Lori is creative in her teaching method so you do more than spend an hour translating sentences from English to Spanish. Instead, you learn the language and grammar while discussing Latin American culture. Depending on your interests, this can mean discussing the surrealist lyrics of a Calle 13 song to practicing the commands while cooking a typical Cuban dish. The lessons with Lori are so fun and I am always looking forward to the next one. I am beyond thrilled that I found her!
Excellent skills in decoding, explaining and helping to grasp material. She makes learning Spanish interesting, and displays great patience.
Lori is personable and relates well to both students and parents explaining in detail the area of concern going forward.
I enjoyed my Spanish lesson with Lori as she not only taught me Spanish but also we talked about the culture which is even more important to me. She is creative and has a warm and genuine personality. I would recommend her as an Espanol maestra.
My kids had a great first experience with Lori. They took a group Spanish class for several years, but now they are too old/advanced for the group class. Lori was well prepared, patient with the girls, and fun! I think this transition will go very well.
Lori is awesome! She does a mix of immersion with English. She knows how to read the level to gain an understanding of where the person's specific strengths and weaknesses are. Due to my crazy work schedule I'm going to use the workbooks and ideas that she recommended me to use for now. I definitely recommend Lori because she is a native speaker and has the academic studies background as well. Thank you for all your help and direction Lori!
Lori is a very good Spanish teacher that adapts to the level of her students and is directly focusing on immersion in the Spanish language to get fully into it. Too early to say I will become fluent but learned in each case already a lot.
Lori arrived smiling despite dealing with traffic issues on her first visit. I greatly appreciate that my kids saw her present herself as fun and engaging!
After initial introductions, she confidently took over with the boys. She spoke to them in Spanish right away and I wondered if they would feel overwhelmed or lost. To my surprise, they were receptive and responded to her questions.
Lori and I later had a lengthy phone call and we discussed learning styles, including immersion. She patiently answered all of my questions and had some good suggestions for future lessons.
I am looking forward to a good relationship and will post on our progress!
Lori was a great help for my girls speech for their school project, that was the best lessons that my girls had. The skill that they learned from Lori will always benefit for their life time.
This is Tiffany. I think that Lori was very helpful and nice to us when I had my lesson with her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
