Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I possess a wealth of experience as a certified English teacher in New York State. I have played an instrumental role in uplifting the hopes of many struggling students by establishing rigorous performance standards. I have been able to successfully craft warm and receptive learning environments, conducive to academic achievement.

ESL/ESOL

I have extensive teaching experience in ESL from the beginner's and intermediary stages to the advance level. I have taught a range of students from young adults to those attending college.
I have successfully developed the listening, verbal and comprehension skills of non English speakers who aspire to pursue the "American Dream."

Grammar

As an English teacher, grammar has been a backbone, woven into many of my lessons. It is a pity that many schools do not emphasize this vital ingredient to developing proficiency in English. For example, if you were to ask someone, "How are you today?", the wrong response is usually "good!" It calls for an adverb!

Proofreading

I am very meticulous when it comes to reviewing and correcting poorly written works. If students and writers, in general, take the time to edit their products, they would be able to impress others as not being sloppy and uncaring. I have always mentioned to my students that a masterpiece is not created in one sitting.

Writing
