Clark University (Master's)
I am currently in my tenth year as a Spanish Teacher working at Rachel Carson High School of Coastal Studies in Brooklyn. I graduated from Clark University cum laude and completed my master's degree in teaching in 2008. Part of my university experience was studying in Spain for a year. I often travel to Spain to keep my Spanish fresh and modern, utilizing all the most recent idioms and phrases.
I have taught Summer School at Urban Assembly for Music and Arts and at William Grady High School, as well as at Ezra Academy and in the GEAR UP Program in CT. I student taught for a year while completing my master's degree in MA. I have mostly worked with ages ranging from 5 to 20 but can work with all ages.
I typically focus on writing, reading, speaking and listening with all of my students, but always cater to my students' personal and individual needs.
I am a very patient, creative and energetic person and am completely fluent in Spanish because of the many years I have studied it and also my year living and studying in Spain. Sara has been tutoring my 9th grade daughter in Spanish. The results have been dramatic. My daughter is in an accelerated class and was having problems grasping all the fine points of Spanish. Sara has done a great job of explaining specific intricacies of the language and keeping her up to speed. The sessions are unhurried and presented in a way that keeps my daughter engaged and wanting more. Thanks, Sara!
My daughter says she already feels like she's ahead in Spanish - with just one session. Not sure I believe that but I'll take the confidence boost Sara has given her anyway! She came back excited to meet with Sara again and eager to get to her Spanish homework. A mom couldn't ask for more.
Sara is a talented tutor of Spanish language. She is working with a high functioning autistic young adult, whose attention span is limited. She has managed to keep his attention and enthusiasm, and to encourage him to study. She is patient and moves at his pace. She is compassionate and friendly.
A rare package of traits.
My daughter worked with Sara for almost a year. This year was the first year for my daughter to take Spanish in her high school and she had to adjust to challenging standards of high school requirements for this class. Sara is absolutely fantastic and was a great help in this transition! She is very easy going, always well prepared and pays attention to details during her lessons. She prepared my daughter for her midterm exam and results were impressive. I would highly recommend Sara to anyone who looks for a Spanish tutor, especially if you child is in school. Sara is familiar with school program and requirements and that made her lessons even more valuable for my daughter. We are planning to work with Sara next year.
Sara is always on time and my daughter feels she gets a lot out of her sessions with Sara.
Sara tutored our 12-year-old in Spanish. When they started, he had transferred to a new school. His old school did not have language instruction, so he was a year behind all the other students. With Sara's help, he not only caught up, but got excellent grades in his Spanish class. Sara is organized, efficient, and very responsible, and she is an excellent tutor. We can't recommend her highly enough.
Sara is tutoring our teen in high school Spanish. She is, in a word, terrific. Her skills are top notch and she communicates well with our teen. She genuinely cares about his school performance and progress. After each session, we get a progress report where she details what they covered. Sara also goes above and beyond by regularly checking in with us after exams and projects to find out how he did. She is also quite punctual. We definitely recommend her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have 9 years of High School Spanish Teaching experience and am also certified in CT, MA and NY for Spanish. I have lived and studied in Spain and return there frequently to sharpen my skills on a continuous basis.
