My name is Marie, and I may be the ideal tutor for you!
I am currently a second year social work student at NYU, and I have 3.5 years of tutoring experience, in addition to several years of counseling experience with children. Before enrolling at NYU, I earned a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University (I majored in general psychology as an undergraduate student at Vassar College), and started tutoring shortly after graduation. I worked for a year as a tutor for the Academic Advantage, and have now been working for WyzAnt for two and a half years. As part of my work, I tutor students in Math (pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, and general Math), Language Arts (including English, reading, vocabulary and writing). and test prep (GED, GRE, SHSAT, SAT).
Besides tutoring, I also have a lot of work experience as a substitute teacher and teaching assistant in various classrooms. I have experience with students of all ages, including extensive experience with individuals who have special needs.
In general, I favor a "hands-on" approach to teaching that involves a lot of interaction between the tutor and student, and concrete experiences in addition to worksheets. However, my specific methods vary according to the subject being taught and the learning style of the student.
I look forward to hearing from you! Hi Everybody,
My name is Marie, and I may be the ideal tutor for you!

Mary is an excellent tutor. She is well prepared and has gotten to know my daughter's strengths and weaknesses very well. All her lessons are customized and helpful.
She is very calm, and serious about helping my daughter to improve her study. She assessed what my 12 years old need to study harder and gives us a list of what my daughter has to work for the next session. My daughter respects Marie a lot and her English is improving!
Marie was very professional, and did a great job of tutoring my daughter for ISEE test. We decided to hire a tutor at the last minute (about a month before the test), and Marie quickly brought my daughter up to speed.
Marie was knowledgeable and very patient with my daughter. I highly recommend Marie.
Marie is a great tutor for my daughter. She is very patient always reachable by phone or e-mail, as well as very punctual. I would recommend Marie for any student struggling with course work in math, reading and writing.
She really helped my sister right before the Specialized High School Exam. She taught in a kind way that was easy to understand. Will absolutely use her again.
My husband and I decided to homeschool our daughter and we knew we had to find a Math tutor. We are glad we discovered WyzAnt and found Marie. From day one, Marie was professional and punctual. From her first session with our daughter, we knew she was proficient in Math. Marie tutored our daughter for 8th and 9th grade Math and provided her with practice tests to prepare for the Regents. Our daughter not only passed the regents, but has gained confidence in her ability to do Math successfully on her own. She is now in 10th grade and Math is no longer a daunting task. Needless to say, we were very pleased with Marie and highly recommend her.
Marie has been tutoring my son for the past several weeks and I have seen great improvement in his overall academic performance. More importantly, my son looks forward to seeing Marie because she makes learning fun. I personally find Marie responsive to my emails and she never hesitates to take a few minutes after the session to speak with me about my son’s progress. I would highly recommend Marie to any parent looking for a tutor.
I would recommend Marie for any child that needs help. My son was failing his EAL test, and was going to get held back.
With her help my son passed his EAL test. This year I signed up with her again. Marie is very good at teaching.
My daughter is 16 and studying for her SATs. Marie assessed her skills and made an excellent study plan for their sessions. My daughter has improved significantly in her writing and grammar. She enjoys learning with Marie. Marie is patient, intelligent and insightful.
Marie’s tutoring sessions continue to positively impact the kids learning gaps. I am particularly pleased because each kids has their challenges on a similar area yet they each need to be tutored using a different strategy to keep them engaged and Marie found a way to get each of them to focused. The sessions are never dull.
I am also very happy with Marie as she looks for ways to have the children focused on the areas they need assistance with by interacting with their teachers to ensure her work complements with the areas they truly need tutoring on.
Marie is also reliable and flexible and as a parent of three kids this is key trait in a tutor.
Marie has been tutoring my daughter for help with her beginning reading and writing. She has a fun approach towards her teaching.
My daughter has had a tremendous improvement and she really enjoys her tutoring sessions with Marie. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her teaching anyone's child who needs that little extra to catch up. My daughter actually looks forward to her Sunday mornings with Marie.
Marie has been working with my 7-year old son, who has aspergers, for a little over a month and she is wonderful. Initially, I was very worried about starting my son with a tutor due to his attentional issues. However, Marie took the bull by the horns right away. From the very first session he was completely engaged--no small feat!
In short, Marie is simply fantastic. She truly has a gift for working with kids that have different learning styles or that are not traditional learners.
My experience with Marie for tutoring my son was a wonderful one. My son was at the end of his 1st year in High School and getting ready to take the Algebra and Earth Science Regents. Although his school offered extra help and saturday classes we wanted to do as much as we could so our son would have a better chance of passing these two very important exams. I began searching for a tutor and stumbled across Marie on Wyzant, and she was willing to take my son and tutor him with an already hectic schedule. My son felt comfortable with Marie from the first day and had nothing but good things to say of their tutoring experience, which resulted in my son passing his Algebra Regents and I cannot express how happy and proud I felt. I really feel that Marie helped my son go that extra mile and taught him strategies that pushed him to reach the score he received on his Algebra Regents. I would definitely recommend Marie as a tutor for any child, she is patient, kind, and a highly competent tutor.
Marie has exemplified the key ingredients of an effective psychology tutor. She has empathy, understanding, patience and professionalism.
Marie is a great tutor. She is very patient and understanding and I give her an A plus.
Marie is reliable and can be depended on to find innovative ways to tutor my daughter. She is sensitive to my daughter's need and has tailored her tutoring strategy to accommodate those needs.
So far, I have been happy with Marie, and my daughter likes her too.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am interested in tutoring people with Aspergers because I am very familiar with the condition, and with the emotional and educational needs that come with it. In addition to earning a Master's degree in clinical psychology, I have worked in several schools for students with special needs, and all of these schools had students with Aspergers.
I also worked for a full year in a residential treatment center with emotionally disturbed adolescents, some of whom had Aspergers, I babysat for a little girl with Aspergers, and I have tutored students with Aspergers. I believe that this experience makes me a qualified tutor for students with this condition.
I may be the ideal tutor for your elementary school child!
I have a Master's degree in psychology with an emphasis on child development; I have taken multiple elementary education courses, and I have about 7 years of experience with school age children, much of which has been in an educational setting.
In addition, this past school year, I have tutored several elementary school students, and significantly improved their grades and test scores. I prefer a hands-on approach to tutoring with this age group, although will occasionally use worksheets in addition to more engaging activities. I look forward to hearing from you, and possibly providing tutoring services to your children.
I am qualified to tutor for the ISEE, because I have 4.5 years of tutoring experience in test prep, and I am familiar with the test. I have also tutored a couple of students for the ISEE, and they did really well on the test.
I recently graduated from Columbia University with a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology. I have experience teaching students to read, including students who have special needs. I have experience with teaching the sounds of the letters, as well as letter combinations.
