About John

I am a recent graduate of Binghamton University's Graduate School of Education as of December 2015 with a Masters of Arts and Teaching for English Grades 7 through 12. Although my teaching certification is still pending, I have successfully passed all required examinations. During my tenure as a MAT student, I have engaged with both whole class instruction and one-on-one tutoring. In both areas, I have had great success both engaging students in the material and fostering their ability to create a more concrete understanding of both reading and writing.

Although my ultimate goal is to become a full-time classroom teacher, I greatly enjoy tutoring students one-on-one as well. Doing so allows me to hone in on a child's specific learning needs and create fun and interesting ways for them to improve as readers and writers in a manner not possible in larger classroom settings. Using my experience, I will ensure that students will receive the best possible help with your English learning needs so that you may succeed in both your academic and personal lives.

As someone who has taken and excelled in the Reading and Writing sections of both the ACT and the SAT, I am more than able to help my students succeed understanding the informational and technical aspects of both exams so that they may move on to receive the best education from their chosen college. Additionally, my personal affinity for writing will be used to not just help a student's writing improve structurally and grammatically, but allow them to find and develop their own unique writer's voice.

If you are interested with ACT and SAT help, or just wish to improve your writing, please feel free to contact me through WyzAnt. I am available at any time of your convenience except Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Thank you and have a great day.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Writing

During my time as a graduate student, my GPA was a consistent 4.0. I have tutored high school students with their writing during my time as as student teacher, who were able to significantly improve their writing with my aid. I am also certified to teach English for Grades 7 through 12.
