About Yaron

I've been teaching and working 1-on-1 with kids for as long as I can remember. In high school that meant private basketball lessons. In college that meant coaching basketball and baseball. After college I began teaching in Hebrew school, and have worked with kids in both elementary school and high school. Most of my Hebrew school experience involves working with students 1-on-1 and teaching them how to read, but I've also done lots of work with high school students coming to school class after they're day at high school. That meant I had to figure out ways to get them interested and involved despite them often not wanting to be there.

As for my personal background: I graduated from NYU in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in sports business. Since then I've been working as a freelance journalist. I've been published in numerous outlets, such as SLAM Magazine, SB Nation, Tablet Magazine and the Journal News, to name a few. I also began pursuing an MFA in creative writing at Manhattanville College in the fall of 2015.

I'm happy to have students over to my home office in Riverdale or meet them in a separate location. I can also be flexible with hours (weekends, nights, etc). I do require 24 hour notice for cancelation but am happy to work with students to make up times.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Basketball

I played basketball in high school, coached a high school basketball team when I was in college, and have spent years giving one-one-one coaching sessions. I'm a sportswriter and cover the NBA and basketball.
