I have worked with children in various age groups and with various agencies for many years. I have been employed by a department of education for more than 11 years. I have provided one to one support as well as whole class support to children of various grades. In have worked with regular and special education children from nonverbal to verbal of all ages. I have tutored English, Reading Comprehension, Phonics, and Science. I have also assisted with behavior intervention plans.
As a versatile educator, I have the opportunity to work with a wide variety of children including emotional disturbed, ADHD/ADD, learning and behavioral challenges, and children with autism, From this experience, I have been able to remain sensitive to the child's unique capabilities. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am currently working with nonverbal students with autism. I know the PECS system, I know how to use Mayor Johnson symbols and I know how to work with a child who has autism. I have worked with higher-lower functioning students with autism.
