Welcome!! As a website content contributor, editor, essayist, tutor, and aspiring author, one of my professional ambitions is to facilitate the literacy development of students and non native English speakers. Since my youth I have been a voracious reader; first consuming titles by Beverly Cleary and Donald Sobol to the young adult fiction works of Walter Dean Myers, Robert Lipsyte, and Chris Lynch before transitioning to primarily non-fiction works like The Autobiography of Malcolm X, Soledad Brother, The Selected Writings and Speeches of Marcus Garvey, in early adulthood. My goal is to transfer the enthusiasm and incessant passion for reading and writing that I've acquired over the years to any student that affords me the privilege of navigating their literary journey. For non native English speakers it is to enhance their comprehension of the English language until they get to a level where they can approach public speaking and writing with confidence. Understanding that learning processes are different for everyone, I will afford each student the individual care, time, attention, and patience necessary to hasten their overall growth.
I have attended several post secondary academic institutions including Montgomery Community College in Maryland as well as Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York. As a student at both, I majored in English with my tutoring experience beginning at Long Island University. It is there where I first began proofreading and editing essays for my fellow classmates. From there I also began volunteering my time at various libraries around the New York City area to help non native English Speakers improve their comprehension of the English language. In total I have two years of tutoring experience and one year of volunteering. Welcome!! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
