My teaching experiences have presented me with numerous opportunities to provide instruction to students across a variety of subjects. Currently, I am a level 3 Teaching Assistant for a very lively and intelligent group of first,fourth, and fifth grade students. Every detail put into a lesson with which I engage my students is intentional. The motivating thoughts are "What do my students need to learn and how can I best help them achieve this?" I consider reflection an extremely important process as I complete each lesson. My final assessment of the lessons help me determine whether it best helped my students meet the objective(s). The feedback received from the students (i.e. their attentiveness throughout the lesson and demonstrated understanding of a concept at the end) and cooperating teacher supply the foundation I need to sharpen my instructional skills. I take these responses and write reflections about whether or not the lesson fulfilled what I intended it to. This reflection helps me to improve management, delivery, and student comprehension through things like differentiation and modifications. I work hard to ensure that each presentation is better the next time.
I assure you that I am an educator who thinks critically about about the details that go into lessons. I set specific and attainable goals for my students as well as myself. I know the importance and benefits of maintaining high expectations for all of my students. Additionally, I not only understand the value of reflection, but also consider and implement the constructive feedback received from others. Last but certainly not least, I genuinely care about my students. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
