I am very well equipped to be a math tutor, having taught math to junior and senior high school students in private schools in the Riverdale-Manhattan area for over 30 years. In this capacity, I have trained students to master Algebra, Geometry, and Trig, as well as basic mathematics, with excellent results. In my position, I also prepared students for the New York State Regents exams, as well as the SAT and ACT exams and high school entrance exams. My administrators frequently commended me on the superior achievements my students attained on their math exams, and noted that, as a result of my courses, they were well prepared to move on to higher level work.
In my capacity as a math teacher, I was often approached by parents, who asked me to tutor their children. As a result, over the past 30 years I have worked individually with hundreds of youngsters, helping them master math concepts and procedures in order to succeed in their classes and perform well on standardized tests. My approach as a tutor is to first establish my tutee's needs and abilities, and to then fashion an individualized program for him/her. I take the student through math examples in a step-by-step manner, making sure the student grasps each point. We then do several additional, similar examples, at first working together and then with the student proceeding alone, to ensure mastery of the topic. I assign follow-up work to see if the student has indeed understood what has been taught. My hallmark is complete patience, and I will continue to go over the material until the student gains complete comprehension. I hope that this approach will help your child gain mastery and confidence in math, and I look forward to enabling your child to reach his/her full math potential. Larry is truly a great tutor!!! He tutored my cousin in Algebra, after he had failed the Regents exam. My cousin loved Larry! He was so patient and explained the material thoroughly; my cousin finally got a better grasp of the material. He just retook the Regents...and passed!!! None of this would have been possible without Larry's excellent tutoring!! Thanks again, Larry!!!
Larry was calm and patient and really seemed to find the best place to start with Tate, who frankly has no memory of what he has learned, no idea where he stood or what he needed to (or should) know at this point in his life. We have been free and home schooling for 3 years, so there really is no measuring stick. Tate felt very comfortable with Larry and feels like this is a great start. We are looking forward to moving forward and hoping to increase Tate's confidence as we go!
A patient tutor, and excellent teacher. Our son has made significant progress since working with him. We are lucky to know him.
Larry was extremely helpful in my son's preparation for the Algebra 2/Trig Regents. He is knowledgeable, professional, organized, and genuinely concerned. I would highly recommend Larry to anyone in need of a math tutor.
The professor teaches me Algebra tenth grade and with his tutoring, I was able to do very well in my exams. I would definitely recommend having this professor to anyone who needs tutoring in high school.
Larry makes my son feel quite comfortable. He is very knowledgeable in the subject area, and my son is gaining back his math confidence!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Over 30 years of instructing junior and senior high school students in math and English.
Many years of tutoring dozens of students individually in taking such tests as the ACT and SAT, with excellent results.
I have taught Algebra 1/Integrated Algebra to hundreds of students over the years, and have also prepared them to successfully take the NY State Regents Exam in the subject. I have also tutored dozens of students in Algebra, and have helped them succeed in their studies.
I have taught math to junior and senior high school students (including Algebra 1 and 2) for over 30 years, and have assisted students in doing well on the NY State Math Regents exam.
I have also tutored many students in math, and have helped raise their scores significantly.
I've taught geometry to numerous students, both in the classroom and individually. I am very familiar with the material and work to the individual needs of each student.
I learned Hebrew in school from 1st through 12th grades. In addition, I taught Hebrew language to students in grades 7 and 8. These lessons involved the knowledge of Hebrew vocabulary and grammar, and included the ability to both write and speak the language.
I have tutored dozens of students to help them improve in the math section of the SAT exam. To accomplish this, I review test taking strategies, as well as the basic math rules that help them solve the required problems. I then go over sample problems on a step-by-step basis, and ask students to try similar examples to see if they have internalized the methods we've just learned.
