About Michele

I have worked with children in various age groups and with various agencies for many years. I have been employed with both New York City Department of Education and Florida Department of Education. I have provided one to one academic support in both classroom and home settings as an ABA therapist. I have tutored students privately from preschool age to high school in the following areas: English, Reading comprehension, Vocabulary, Spelling, Phonics, Math, Science and Spanish. I have also assisted with behavior intervention plans.

As a versatile educator, I have had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of children including those afflicted with Autism, ADD/ADHD, learning disabilities and behavioral challenges. From this experience, I have been able to remain sensitive to the child’s unique capabilities. I can provide individualized support and collaborate with the parents to cultivate a supportive environment.

Providing assistance to the child by employing effective techniques allows me to help in their needs, goals and struggles. After evaluation, I can adapt my methods to accommodate multiple learning styles, ensuring that the child will comprehend and retain the information in a manner that suits his/ her best. Furthermore, helping to promote educational games and supervising activities that encourage participation and socialization are just a few of my talents.

One of my greatest strengths is helping maintain a well-disciplined learning environment with minimal interruptions and maximum productivity. This is achieved by redirecting and reinforcing positive behaviors and implementing a reward system. In addition, I can develop an excellent trusting rapport with the child to make certain that they feel comfortable and safe.

As a highly compassionate and committed educator, with a passion for life-long learning, I welcome the opportunity to meet with you to discuss how my extensive experience and skills would benefit your needs. Thank you for your time and consideration. And I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I worked in the past at C.R. Applegate elementary School in Freehold New Jersey. It was self contained Autistic Education Program. It also included children with ADD/ADHD. Some of my duties included but not limited to, teaching in dyads and in one-on-one settings in ABA along with performing therapy massages, assisted in feeding and toileting programs, supported in P.T., O.T. and speech programs.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I worked for three year at Mamaroneck Avenue School located in Mamaroneck, New York. My first and second year at Mamaroneck I worked in a k-3 self contained autistic classroom. My third year at Mamaroneck I worked in a 3-5 self contained autistic classroom. In order to follow each child IEP, I used both Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Teach methods.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have ten years of experience working with children at the elementary level. In the past I worked as a teachers assistant, an ABA therapist and a tutor. I have helped students develop their reading comprehension, writing and math skills. I was able to build my student vocabulary by using a "word ring," "color words" and "word memory." In order for my students to memorize math facts I used "1 min drills," "multiplication bingo" and "math who am I." These are just some example of games I created to help my student find learning fun.

Phonics

I have helped students develop their reading, comprehension, writing and phonics skills by using pictures with letters, handwriting books, tiled letters, Edmark and Rainbow programs.

Special Needs

In the past year I worked at an elementary school in Kissimmee, Florida. I worked in a 3rd-5th grade classroom with students afflicted with multiple mental disorders such as ADD, ADHD, Downs Syndrome, and Autism. I worked to develop programs on the child's IEP. In the classroom, I have also worked on self-help skills such as brushing teeth, washing hands, and using utensils. I have also worked on developing social skills.
