I have been teaching children for the last 35 years. I teach concepts from different sports, and explain how these concepts can help children do better in school. I use examples from Chess, Scuba Diving and Baseball to teach the importance of math and reading, and how these sports help our children focus and do much better as a team player and an overall student. The examples I use are derived from well known physical laws, such as Archimedes' Principles, Charles and Boyles Law, and show children why these important laws would have been irrelevant if not for math. I am a true believer that Scuba Diving,Chess and Baseball, can help any student do 100% better in any activities they are engaged in. I was the Director of E. Gordon Smith Sage Hill Camp in Jamaica Vt, where I taught children the importance of math in association with the above mentioned activities.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Baseball is one of America's favorite past time, and for this reason I strongly believe that everyone should learn the game. It is a game played by 9 players in each team. The object of the game is to score as many runs as you can and make sure the other team doesn't by getting 3 outs in each inning. First, Second, Short Stop and Third base are considered to be infield position, along with Home Plate where the catcher catches every pitch thrown to the batter. The outfielders are Left, Center and Right Field. The game teaches team cooperation which is the most important part of the game. I have been teaching and playing baseball for 54 years, I believe I know the sport.
I am a strong USCF expert with the highest rating of 2119. I am an expert and have been playing chess since the age of 13. I am very familiar with chess openings, middle games and chess endings. I am thoroughly familiar with the Ruiz Lopez, French, Sicilian defense, English and Caro and many others. I have competed in National as well as International Tournaments. I have taught chess in Tortola, Dominican Republic and the United States.
An easy game to learn but very difficult to master. I provide the learner with many possible moves, but usually one move defines the game. It is played on 64 black and while squares with 16 pieces on each side. The game has an equal number of pieces with the same values for both players. The object of the game is to checkmate the King...not an easy task, as you can sacrifice as many pieces as possible and still win the game. White pieces move first, therefore, deciding the structure of the opening. Pieces in order of importance are: The King, once captured the game is over. The Queen, strongest piece on the board followed by the two rooks on the right and left ends of the board. Two Bishops and two Knights, each valued equally in points. Then there are the eight pawns in front of all of these pieces; all pawns if reached to the eighth rank can become another Queen, Rook, Bishop or Knight...but not another King or another Pawn. A game of true war without violence. A true helper in school because it allows you to focus and concentrate.
Elementary math is a fun way to learn and communicate more difficult "stuff" children need to learn. I provide a very easy an effective way to demonstrate to children how enjoyable math can be. I use number tricks and fun examples, and before you know it your child will do much better in school. In the process I teach your children how to play "CHESS" and use numbers and notations to make it fun and enjoyable.
I strongly believe that Spanish should be the official language of love. It is a language that is spoken throughout the world for its simplicity and its beautiful pronunciation. Similar to English, the alphabets are almost identical with the exception of additional letters in added to the Spanish alphabets. These letters such as "Ch" "LL" and few others make the pronunciation unique in its own way. Learning Spanish is like tasting a different and exotic recipe on a daily basis. Once learned, you will want to speak it on a daily basis. Although I am from the Dominican Republic, I took Spanish in college in order to absorb the fine writing of Spanish literature. I strongly recommend you come along for a long journey of fun, laughter and learning while learning a new language.
I am a certified Scuba Diving Instructor and have been teaching Scuba Diving since 1970. I am certified though the National Association of Underwater Instructor, as well as the National Association of Scuba Diving Schools. I have taught both basic and advance swimming along with water survival skills. I have logged over 2100 hours of diving, and I have taught students from the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Florida and the United States. Swimming is a rather simply sport, and with patience there should be no drowning in the United States by properly teaching our children this basic sport.
