About Florence

I am a December 2015 graduate of Michigan State University. I received my degree in International Relations with minors in African Studies and French. Due to the humanities/social science nature of my major, I have further developed strong writing, reading, and critical thinking skills. I was able to study abroad in France, so I have a high level of proficiency in the language.

I have always had a strong interest in English, History (social studies), and other related subjects. As such, I would be able to to tutor those of any level taking such courses. Additionally, I am able to tutor with PSAT as I was a National Achievement Finalist. I can also tutor in ACT as I got a 30 and became quite familiar with the makeup of the test. I'm also willing to help any age. I had tutoring experience thus far from helping my younger siblings and fellow peers.

While I was at Michigan State, I worked as a tutor with the student athlete tutoring program. This experience gave me the opportunity to fine tune my tutoring skills in a professional setting. The great thing about this experience was seeing how the athletes were able to stay on top of their coursework. Some of the best moments were when they finally grasped a concept or finished an essay. While have not yet tutored with WyzAnt, I believe the experiences that I have had thus far have well prepared me for a role as your tutor or the tutor of your child.

Finally, all my in-person tutoring would be done at a local library, but I am very open to online tutoring as well. I am willing to travel out of the Bronx if need be! If you're in Brooklyn or Queens, there would be some advanced planning needed.

Thank you for viewing my profile, and I hope that I get the opportunity to work with you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I scored a 33 on ACT English

Career Development

I am currently a law school student and a full-time paralegal. To get to this point, I have experience with many volunteer opportunities, internships, jobs, and more. All of this has required me to learn about writing resumes, cover letters, branding, interviewing, networking, and more. Because of these experiences, I believe that I would be able to assist anyone looking to get to the next level in their career development.

College Counseling

Between college and now law school, I have had many experiences with various admissions processes. Because of this I believe that I would be able to assist in preparation for college. I know the application process is not easy, and I would love to assist with everything from resume writing to essay writing. I'd also be able to assist with helping students getting an idea of what they want to/where they might want to go to college.

English

English was always one of my favorite subjects in high school, and I got a 34 in it on the ACT.

Prealgebra

My profile should show that I passed the pre-algebra test and have been approved by WyzAnt to teach.I took pre-algebra in 7th grade, and have taken math courses regularly since then. I now have a better grasp of basic pre-algebra concepts through learning more advanced math. Also, my brother is in 7th grade and in pre-algebra as well, and I've helped him out when I've been home on breaks.

Public Speaking

I am qualified to tutor in this subject because I competed in Speech and Debate for two years and placed a few times at different conferences. I also competed on the Mississippi Model Security Council during y junior year of high school, and am now a member of my university's Model UN team.

Writing

I got an 11 out of 12 on the ACT writing test. Also, I took a writing class all freshman year that was pretty intense.
