I love teaching! I was working in an office job and decided that I needed a change. In 2010, I looked for several different types of jobs that included positions in public relations, publishing, international affairs, and consulting. I found an opening for a teacher's assistant at an early intervention center to teach children between the ages of 2-3 who were labeled as having autism or other developmental delays. It was a risk, but after working there for a year I loved it and to become a head teacher I had to go back to school to receive my master's in education. I graduated from Teachers College, Columbia University with my master's in elementary and special education this February. Right now, I am a NYS certified teacher with a license to teach grades 1-6 and students with disabilities.
I am a native New Yorker, grew up in Manhattan and attended public schools. I love using my monthly unlimited Metrocards.
I hold a NYS initial certification childhood grades 1-6 and teaching children with disabilities Grades 1-6.
I have taught in first, third, and fifth grades. I have experience teaching middle school as well, I was a push-in teacher for seventh and eighth grade science. I recently finished teaching third grade and in the fall will teach fourth grade.
I have been a tutor for a male student going into 8th grade for the last three years in Mandarin Chinese. I have also tutored him in 7th grade math.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
After graduating from college, I enrolled in Johns Hopkins Nanjing Center for Chinese and American Studies and took graduate level courses in Mandarin Chinese. The lectures were in Mandarin Chinese and I submitted all my papers in Chinese as well. I am fluent speaking, reading, and writing in Mandarin Chinese. After completing the program, I attended summer workshops in Hamilton College's Associated Colleges in China programs to learn how to teach Mandarin Chinese in k-12 classrooms. It increased my knowledge on the methods for teaching Chinese. I have been a Mandarin Chinese tutor for about 3 years now for a male student who is now going into eighth grade.
I have a master's degree in Inclusive Elementary Education from Teachers College Columbia University. I passed four state exams (LAST, ATS-W, Multi-Subject, and CST: Teaching Students with Disabilities) to become certified to teach in NY. I am currently an elementary special educator in a public school.
