I'm Isabel, and I would love the opportunity to help you study English, Literature, and Writing, as well as learn Latin. I've earned two degrees (BA and MA) in Comparative Literature and Liberal Arts. I have also completed all but a dissertation at Princeton University as a PhD student in Comparative Literature. I have one year of tutoring experience. I would love to help my students not only learn helpful tools and techniques for literary analysis, writing, and languages but also inspire a passion for literature and a desire to keep pursuing it. My goal is to give students a supportive and warm environment for helping to prepare them for essays and exams, as well as any other goals they might have, and to foster a lifelong love of learning. My approach to teaching focuses on guiding students to find their own answers to questions while providing them with concrete and expert advice. I would love to hear my students' own thought processes and try to go slowly and carefully through my own, in order to create an exciting and clarifying dialogue.
During my time in my BA, MA, and PhD programs, as well as during my year of tutoring experience, I cultivated an expert ability to analyze literature and write and structure essays. I also learned the power of asking illuminating questions. As your tutor, I will guide dynamic discussions on both literature and writing by asking questions about themes, word choice, and more, as well as provide feedback and advice on the technicalities of grammar and structure.
My approach to teaching Latin is both fun and all-encompassing, including learning songs, reading short stories, and learning mnemonic devices for the trickier technical aspects.
If you are looking for a dedicated and passionate tutor with expertise in a wide range of literature-related fields, and for a learning experience that will both support you and challenge you, send me a message and I will gladly reply! I look forward to working with you.
