Binghamton University (Math and Economics)
I am a recent graduate of Binghamton University with BS degrees in Mathematical Sciences and Economic Analysis. I now work as an Actuary at Security Mutual. An actuary is basically an applied mathematician, who works primarily with probability and stochastic modeling.
In my time in college, I tutored through the University Discovery Program, and taught various courses in Math, Physics and Economics. In my last two years tutoring, I became the predominant tutor for all intro level courses and Calculus 1. I also have experience tutoring at a High School level, and for standardized tests.
I think the biggest reward to tutoring is in helping a student learn to think analytically, and to try to solve problems that they do not immediately know how to solve using critical thinking. I value this far more than teaching formulas etc.
Please feel free to message me if you have any questions or want to talk. I am looking forward to meeting new people and helping in the pursuit of knowledge! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I majored in Actuarial Science in University, and have passed 3 actuarial exams to date.
I took this class in college, both ordinary and partial differential equations. I also tutored ordinary differential equations through my university for 2 years.
I took discrete math in college and tutored it for 1 semester.
I have taken multiple logic classes in university. I tutored for elementary logic for 1 semester, and for Intro to Proof Writing for 3 semesters, which was a very logic intensive course. I especially like logic because to me it is what separates higher math from computational formula based math.
