Alfred University (English)
My name is Danielle and I am an English major with a minor in Secondary Education at Alfred University. I will be student teaching in the fall and then finishing up my remaining three English classes in the spring of 2017. This July and August I will be traveling to Poland to teach American Literature and Music History to English language Learners which I am very excited about! My current overall GPA is a 3.66 out of a possible 4.0 and am currently a member of the Sigma Tau Delta English Honors Society.
In the past I have taught swim lessons, mini lessons at the schools surrounding Alfred University, and I am a nationally ranked synchronized swimming coach. Two summers ago I was a stand in head coach and brought a team to Seattle, Washington with me to compete at the National Competition. Additionally I have taught adaptive swim lessons at the Boys and Girls Club to swimmers with disabilities, ages ranging from five to fifty five.
I love to teach and look forward to working with students through this Program!
I am 90 credits into an English Liberal Arts program and have applied much of my knowledge thus far in teaching mini lessons at schools surrounding Alfred University. With the exception of student teaching I have completed all the necessary course work to be a certified teacher in New York State. Many of these classes have focused on literacy, and how to apply and differentiate activities to make them relevant to my content area. However, much of my tutoring has been a home when I help my younger brother prepare for his regents exams every year!
In joining WyzAnt I hope to not only help students do well on tests, but gain confidence in their learning ability. Learning should not be a dreadful process and I think it is important to remember that school can be fun and enriching as well. I look forward to working with students through this program! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a swim instructor and a certified synchronized swim coach. I was a synchronized swimmer for ten years and been teaching swim lessons for five! I love the water and am very confident in my swimming and teaching ability.
I played tennis at the modified and varsity level in high school. I played top ten doubles for most of that time. From there I took a year off and then played at the college level at Alfred University until I had to stop to focus on my teaching requirements.
