Hello and welcome to my profile!

About me:
I am a Biology major, Theater minor at Stony Brook University. I took AP Biology in high school. I have taken basic Biology courses in Physiology, Cell Biology, Evolution, Ecology. I have taken courses in Evolution, Ecology, Chordate Zoology (Animal Evolution) and Cancer Biology. I am on the Pre-Med track and am currently part of the Pre Medical Society's Community Outreach Committee at Stony Brook University. I have traveled to Thailand and shadowed doctors in the Pediatric Unit hospital, as well as shadowed a General Surgeon in Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan. I recently just took the MCAT and spent my summer preparing and reviewing all of my science learned through out my education. On my breaks from college I teach Kickline, Cheerleading and Arts and Crafts at a recreation program for children ages 5-14. I love to teach and help others learn. I haven't had a lot of professional tutoring jobs but have been a teaching assistant for a Leadership and Service course at my school.

How I teach:
I love interactive study methods and believe engaging learning is the best way to absorb information. I like to draw things out, especially using the whiteboard. Since Biology is a lot of visualizing, I like to teach with pictures, analogies etc. I am a firm believer in repetition. The best way to study something is to keep practicing and reviewing it- not just looking at it once. One study method I use myself, is the classic flashcards! Another I discovered while in college is to 1) review my homework, 2) write out my notes, 3) use a white board to keep writing them over and over, and 4) make practice questions for myself based off of what I wrote. This way I already have come up with any possible way a question can be asked- then practice test! They really help make the difference.

How we will work together:
I believe that there is nothing that anyone cannot learn. Certain subjects are harder than others but if you put the time in, you will succeed! I desire to help any and every student that I can master whatever it is they are struggling with. I will help you identify what issues you are having trouble with, review content that may seem confusing and help you solve and practice any problems you may have. I can also make practice questions up for you to help review! I believe that there are no stupid questions, so please feel free to ask me for help with school or advice!
