About Rick

I've been writing all my life. I was a 2 time winner of the Young Author's Award at the ages of 5 and 7, and have had a passion for the written word ever since.

I currently write the bi-monthly comic book "The Adventures of Miru", and I've been in the creative field for years--working for Marvel, Hasbro, and more. I graduated with a double major in English and Film, and have a passion for creative writing.

I've always had a drive for teaching. While never pursuing it on a professional level, directing films, leading creative teams, and having a potent passion for language keeps me going. My goal is to help others get the most out of their writing, and understand that it's one of the ultimate forms of expression.

My condensed credentials:
- 3.8 GPA from URI with a double major in English and Film.
- Featured columnist for the Marvel Comics website and Geeks of Doom (over 300k monthly viewers)
- Senior level copywriter.
- Writer for brands such as Transformers, Spider-Man, and My Little Pony.

My goal is to help students improve their current skill set, as well as unlocking a passion for the written word.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Film

I graduated with a major in film. I specialized in film theory, and know Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, and elements of Photoshop. I have years of experience with the Canon D Series of cameras, and have a wide knowledge of production aspects--from pre-pro to post.

Video Production

I have 10 years of video production experience including several award winning short films and an internationally distributed feature. Beyond this, I have written, shot, and directed national commercials.
