I am currently certified New York State Elementary (N-6); New York State Special Education (N-12). Having extensive experience in the Orton Gillilngham practice, a hands-on, multi-sensory program for struggling readers, I am a Wilson Dyslexia Therapist, trained in Wilson Reading Levels 1 & 2. I’m experienced in developing and writing IEP’s and have excellent communication, collaboration and organizational skills. I am creative, resourceful, and intuitive and contain design challenging and enriching lessons, aligned to the NYS curriculum. I implementing motivating, enriching, and engaging lesson plans in both reading, writing, phonics, and math for students of all ages and those with a range of different disabilities, including ADHD, ADD, autism, Asperger's Syndrome and learning disabilities.
I am passionate about teaching and am dedicated to enhancing lifelong learning in children, teenagers and adults. My goal is to see that children (and adults, too) succeed and build their motivation, energy, and self-confidence. I want them to feel proud of their accomplishments. I mostly teach math and reading but can also tackle social studies in grades K-8.
I am creative, intuitive and resourceful and implement an assortment of behavioral intervention strategies. I am always responsible and believe in a student-centered environment, putting the needs of children first and foremost. Finally, I am available to consult with parents and school specialists regarding students' backgrounds and growth. Also, all of the above qualifications also pertain to this section. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified to teach dyslexia students because I have over 12 years of experience in Wilson training. I am a Wilson Dyslexia Therapist, accredited with Wilson and the International Dyslexia Association. I design lessons that multi-sensory, hands-on, engaging that meet the needs of the student who is struggling with reading. I use special tiles to present a tactile approach to phoneme awareness, fostering decoding and encoding in a fun and challenging way.
I have a special ed and elementary ed license and have taught for 19.4 years as a special educator. I have recently taught resource room special needs students for Lakeland Central School District for K-5 students. I test at risk students to determine their best needs in their classroom. I collaborate with elementary teachers and also parents of students to determine the best plan to meet the student's program needs.
I have worked with children with reading needs for more than 19 years. I have been certified in Wilson language - a multi-sensory Orton Gillingham program technique for reading and writing. I am certified in levels 1 & 2. I have taught students from K-7 in this technique. I attend Wilson seminars annually to keep up-to-date on most recent strategies and techniques to motivate and help stimulate learning for elementary and middle school age students. I also work with parents to help supplement learning at home, too.
I have a license for teaching special education students grades, pre-K-12. I have been working with special needs children for more than 19 years in all different settings - collaborative, co-teach, self-contained and also resource room pull-out and push in students. I have been tutoring students for more than 15 years now. I help my students grow academically and emotionally. I help them achieve success and build their confidence. I consult with other special education teachers and keep current with strategies in educational journals. I am a compassionate, diligent teacher with a nurturing style of teaching I always treat students as I would want to be treated with respect and honesty.
