I love to teach and instruct English. I love to write and help children with it. My favorite part of tutoring is getting to know my students' personalities, strengths, weaknesses, and interests. I believe that is what helps me most in helping them to achieve their goals.
I have taught but currently, I just tutor. I do this because I noticed that I live the one on one relationship more than I love teaching a class as a whole. It is more personal and my tridents always get the notion of being cared more about and getting paid attention to more. This is very important as I believe the more they know you care, the more they will listen. I love learning from each student I have.
In the beginning of this school year, I was a main teacher at Emmanuel Genius until the classes at the school got combined. I had an assistant teacher who helped me with a class of about eighteen UPK students. The school year before that, I served as a teacher assistant in a kindergarten classroom at P.S.40 in Manhattan. Before that, I was a daycare teacher assistant at Happy Dragon, an UPK/Daycare/Early Intervention center. I went into this immediately after student-teaching at P.S.203. At P.S. 203, I was lucky enough to be guided by two teachers who gave me the chance to teach homogeneous kindergarten and gifted 3rd grade. They wanted to make sure I was exposed to teaching a variety of students, and made me aware that I will never be given a "normal" group of students. Because of this experience, I always remember every child learns differently, and that that is what I have to learn first.
The early education age group is particularly appealing to me. I feel it is when students are most open and interested in what they are taught and told. I am very well qualified and would be an asset to this school because of my love for the field and history of many various teaching experiences. I have worked mostly with elementary school students in regards to a teaching-position job, but have also had many experiences with the Special Education classes, IEP students, and physically disabled students. I also had the lucky opportunity to serve a year in a kindergarten homogeneous and gifted 3rd grade class. Outside of school, I enjoy tutoring my private students and encouraging them to build confidence in both their abilities to achieve, academically and socially.
ESL, English, grammar, literature and reading. I am certified in all subjects up to the sixth grade and certified to teach English to anyone.
My schedule is very flexible, just let me know what works for you and I will try to work something out the best I can. I prefer to teach at my home. I love to teach and instruct English. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I completed my undergraduate college degree from SUNY New Paltz with a dual degree in early childhood education and childhood education for grades birth to 6th grade with a concentration in the English language. I've taught in several elementary schools in Queens and Manhattan. Currently, most of my students come to me for helping writing, reading, and phonics. I am qualified because it is my minor and passion!
