About Hun

I am a college professor who loves tutoring situations where I can directly assess my students' needs and provide an individualized help as well as interact with my warm heart. My underlying interests behind my subjects are always related to how this student ultimately finds his/her own way to be a self-learner and flourish him/herself in the academic area.

Human development through education is one of my life-long passions through my careers. I spent about 25 years in the fields of Education and Psychology, which made me knowledgeable with learning theories and experienced with instructional practices. Although I am relatively new in WyzAnt, more than 10 years of tutoring experiences have helped me meet many learners in different grade levels with their own thinking and learning styles and needs. My most recent 4 years of college level teaching career makes me experience highest level of teaching contents for adult learners with diverse backgrounds, too. My tutoring experiences can be summarized as the followings:
* 3rd - 5th grade: Advanced math (Olympiad type training), critical thinking, etc.
* 6th - 8th grade: Grade level math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, TOEFL, etc.
* 9th - 12th grade: Geometry, Algebra 2, SAT & ACT, AP Calculus, etc.
* College Level: Statistics for social sciences (psychology, education research), SPSS, etc.

I am specialized in Elementary Math, Algebra 1, SAT and ACT math test preparation, Statistics for social sciences, and SPSS skills and tips. Because I made through the South Korean education system up to the undergraduate level with the highest achieving grades and also did tutoring for more than 7 years there, I know how I should teach and how students should learn mathematics related subjects. I am ready to help you find solutions no matter what kind of problems you may currently have around these subjects.

** Additional qualification information on Statistics/SPSS: I have taken 10+ graduate level statistics courses in my graduate program. As a doctoral student, I also worked as a Graduate Research Assistant for more than 5 years using statistical knowledge and skills to help 7 different research projects conduct statistical analyses with SPSS. As a post-doctoral research and teaching fellow, I experienced quantitative psychological training and taught Psychological Statistics course for three semesters. Then, I have been teaching psychology courses including Introduction to Research and Statistical Methods in Psychology last 8 semesters/summer sessions in NYC area.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

SAT Math

Relatively many SAT math questions are more similar to those in IQ tests than to those in high school math subjects. This is the reason why some high achieving students in Algebra 1, 2, or Geometry struggle with SAT math and they need to develop particular skills and practice themselves for a while with SAT math types of questions.
I have helped many SAT test takers in the past and they improved math score from lower 600s to mid or upper 700s. My child took SAT in May 2015 and received 800, while her practice test score was around 650 in January 2015.

SPSS

I have used SPSS for more than 10 years as a research assistant and a research associate. I helped 7+ research teams with various statistical approaches using SPSS. I have taught SPSS skills 11 consecutive semesters and summer sessions. The 90% of my total hours of tutoring via WyzAnt is related to SPSS.

Statistics

I have taken 12 graduate level statistics courses in my graduate program. As a doctoral student, I also worked as a Graduate Research Assistant for more than five years using statistical knowledge and skills to help seven different research projects conduct statistical analyses with SPSS. As a post-doctoral research and teaching fellow, I experienced quantitative psychological training in South Carolina and taught Psychological Statistics course for three semesters. Then, I have been teaching psychology courses including Introduction to Research and Statistical Methods in Psychology last eight semesters/summer sessions in NYC area.
