As a successful tutor I analyze each student's needs and try to determine where they have run into trouble in their particular course. Sometimes I start from the beginning to make sure that they have not misunderstood any of the early material. Without a solid foundation one cannot proceed. For other students I can take them from the point at which they ran into problems and assist in them in moving beyond that point.
My Bachelor's degree was conferred by SUNY Oswego and my Master's by Colby College, Waterville, ME. I am fully and permanently certified by the State of New York Department of Education in several areas of science education, including Chemistry, Physical Science, and Earth Science. I have over twenty years of successful classroom teaching and over ten years of successful tutoring experience.
I look forward to being of assistance to you. As a successful tutor I analyze each student's needs and try to determine where they have run into trouble in their particular course. Walt did a great job tutoring Chemistry to my high school daughter. He made the lesson fun, as well as educational. After one visit, my daughter has more confidence, and is looking forward to next week.
Walt makes learning fun and engaging! He is wonderful with our 10th grade son. He is a gifted teacher and we are seeing results!
I spoke with Walt on the phone, which he called me back quickly to discuss my daughter's (10th grade) issues with Earth Science. Walt was a pleasure to deal with and knew immediately how to overcome her issues. We had Walt over the house to go over past and present assignments and my daughter loved him! She expressed that he was patient, kind and taught her in a way she could understand. The following day she received a 100 on her quiz. Going from 40's to a 100 was a great boost for her (she was a 90 student in Biology the past year). Not only do I not have a frustrated teen, she is looking forward to Walt coming back. Can't wait to see Walt next week....Earthquake test!!!!
Works extremely well with my 9th grade son. My son seems to be learning and building confidence. He is engaged and participates in the lessons. Walt loves the subject matter and this enthusiasm hopefully will be contagious. Always prompt and prepared. He is a delightful individual. So glad we found him.
Our experience with Walt R. as our sons Chemistry tutor has been positive. He is very knowledgeable and presents the information to our son in a way a 15 year old can understand. Our sons grade has improved and he enjoys working with Walt!
Very knowledgeable/qualified Earth Science tutor. Generation X Gentleman who made a quick connection with my son. He was patient, knows his stuff and can break it down.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have had a number of courses in Biology on both the undergraduate and graduate levels, along with successful classroom and tutoring experience. While taking courses for my Masters I was also a teaching assistant for undergrads in the biology laboratory.
Regents, Honors, and 101 level teaching and tutoring experience.
Some of my science undergraduate courses included Chemistry I, Chemistry II, and Genetics.
On the graduate level my courses in chemistry included Principles of Chemistry, Chemistry of the Covalent Bond, and Chemical Equilibrium. Other courses I have taken which included areas where a utilitarian knowledge of Organic Chemistry was utilized were Ecology and Genetics.
I have been tutoring students in chemistry, including organic chem, for a number of years.
My course work on the undergraduate level included Physical Science, Biology I and II, Chemistry I and II, Genetics, Meteorology, and Physics II. At the graduate level it included Advanced Earth Science, Mineralogy and Petrology, Advanced Historical Geology, Principles of Chemistry, Chemistry of the Covalent Bond, Chemical Equilibrium, Advanced Meteorlogy, Ecology, and Advanced Genetics.
Certificate granting courses included Stellar Astronomy from the Hayden Planetarium, and Subatomic Physics from Brookhaven National Laboratory.
