Mark is an excellent tutor who is capable of making complicated topics seem very easy. I was having a lot of difficulty with my college Calculus 2 class until I started meeting with him for lessons. The lessons helped me understand the new topics easily and he also patiently helped me to correct any problems I was still having from Algebra,Trig, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus. After only a few tutoring sessions I went from being completely lost to solving almost all problems with ease and doing really well in my Calculus 2 course.
If you are looking to do well in any math course I strongly recommend working with Mark. He will make even complicated college level courses in Calculus seem like a piece of cake.
Thanks Brian. It was a pleasure working with you. Best of luck this year.
Mark helped me over a series of weeks to improve my math SAT score and skills. He's a great help.
Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate your comments. Good luck on the SAT this Saturday. If you need any help with Precalculus, let me know.
Mark is very reliable and flexible with his schedule. He also makes any topic easy to comprehend. He takes the time to explain in detail how to solve the problem. With his help, my grades have dramatically improved from F's to A's. I strongly recommend Mark as a math tutor.
Thank you Euane. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. I was glad to see that your niece did so well on the AP Calculus exam and that, as a result, placed out of Calculus 1. I'm sure that she will do equally as well, if not better, in Calculus 2.
Mark is teaching me Trig and Algebra II. He has a different way of explaining which is easy to I understand. Excellent tutor.
As a returning student it is very important for me to have a strong basic math foundation for Algebra: Mark M. is an excellent teacher, taking the time to explain every math question in a language I could understand. I am now confident that with Mark as a tutor I will get an A in algebra.
Extremely pleased, studying with Mark I received an A in A Survey of Mathematics. I'm confident that the grade was a direct reflection of the exceptional tutoring I received using a WyzAnt tutor.
Thanks Mary. Best of luck at Columbia University!!
My daughter likes Mr. M. He is very patient, thorough, and good at reviewing her work. So far she's gone up one grade level.
Mr. M is very bright and dedicated to the students. My daughter was experiencing difficulty in math and Mr. M made time for her in between tutoring sessions.
Mark is punctual, patient, knowledgeable, and truly cares about my son's understanding of the subject. Mark builds confidence and self-esteem with his calm and reassuring manner. After ten weeks, my son's grade in math went up to 90. His last test was a 94! He is so proud of himself and finally believes he can do it thanks to Mark. This week, our son passed his Trig. Regents and will receive his Advanced Regents Diploma!
Mark is simply a wonderful tutor who explains topics with patience and knowledge. Calculus was an extremely difficult course and Mark made it really understandable! He makes whatever topic very understandable, which gives the student confidence of the material being covered.
He is truly a great tutor and I would and do recommend him to any student who is having difficulty in math. Mark is very respectful and trustworthy, so with that and his great knowledge of various subjects in math, he comes with an excellent rating from our family. You will quickly see the difference!
He is very patient and he is flexible with hours and days he can tutor you. He is helpful and a great tutor! I could not have passed my entrance exam for hygienist school without him!
Alexandra, thank you for your comments. They are greatly appreciated. Congratulations on passing the test. Good luck in hygienist school!
My son can not stop raving about how Mark was able to get him to understand the topic in just 45 minutes. My son states that it is the first time that he feels prepared for a math quiz, thanks to Mark and his great teaching strategies. My son who is not very confident in math, is actually looking forward to his next lesson with Mark. I think that speaks volumes about his patience and his ability as a tutor.
After the session, my son has a better understanding of proofs. Mark was very thorough and explained the material. We will definitely use mark again.
Mark really helped my son to work through his weak sticking points in his Geometry course work. He is patient and has great style of tutoring that should be commended. Thank you Mark for being kind and reliable!
Turned out that Calc 2 was not only hard for me but difficult for my tutor as well. Luckily, with some hard work and persistence, we were able to work through my problems and helped me get a great grade in the course!
The course was "difficult for my tutor" only because some of the problems were what I would call unusual applications (i.e., applications not discussed in a typical Calculus course). The course (offered by the University of Massachusetts) was taught in a nontraditional format using the Hughes/Hallett reform Calculus materials.
Nevertheless, as Nicole L. says in her comment, we were able to decipher all of the problems and obtain the correct answers.
Mark has been tutoring my son once a week for approximately 3 months now. My son understands what Mark is teaching and likes him in general. My son's overall trig/algebra2 grade is increasing. His grade was in the 70's and is now in the 80's. Mark has been very easy to work with from my perspective as well. He has been very reliable and I feel good about turning my son over to him for the lesson. Mark has given me one less thing to worry about. I highly recommend him!
Since my daughter has been working with Mark her math grades have been excellent and her confidence is back. Thank you so much
Mr. M. and my son are able to communicate and reach an understanding on the subject. His grades have increased dramatically. Enough said.
During our first tutoring session Mark M. was very patient with me. On our first day I was unable to access my online course because the publishers changed the design of the website and I needed to install a new browser. Mark M. even tried helping me with the browser installation. Mark M. looked at my syllabus and was able to come up with and review math problems based on the syllabus. To me that says a lot. I look forward to all that I will learn during my next session with Mark M. he is a great tutor.
Mark has been my daughter's math tutor (algebra 2 and introduction to Trigonometry) for the past few months and we are very happy with him. He is kind, patient, knowledgeable and also a wonderful teacher. He is reliable, helpful and accommodating. I wish we had met him earlier in the school year; would have saved us a lot of headache and stress. My daughter has become more comfortable with the understanding of the subject and her test grades have improved. Mark took the role as her real math teacher and as a result we had a successful year.
Mark M. is a very knowledgeable and patient tutor. He has been tutoring our son in Geometry throughout the whole school year, and we have been very happy with him. Our son was able to understand the concepts of Geometry and his problem solving skills improved significantly. Mark M. is also a very reliable, punctual and caring tutor.
Mark is very good at going through the details step by step, which is really important for advanced math. He writes the problems out for me to use as a study aid. He is very good at explaining when I don't quite understand a problem; he can explain it in a different way than my professor so I get it. He's also good at reminding me how much I should be studying and helping me figure out what and how to study for a test. Since he used to teach, he has some insight on how a teacher might think and helps me focus on the important problems when it's time to do that last minute cramming for a test.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught Algebra 1 at the college level and have experience in tutoring the course to both high school and college students. I have expertise in all of the main topics covered in a typical Algebra 1 course, including factoring, working with rational expressions, completing the square, the quadratic formula, evaluating expressions, graphs and equations of lines, slope, simplifying radical expressions, solving equations and systems of equations, solving linear inequalities, and using Algebra to solve word problems.
I have taught this course at the college and community college levels. In addition, I have successfully tutored high school students preparing for the Algebra 2/Trig New York State Regents exam, a number of which scored in the 90's. As a retired college Mathematics professor, I am knowledgeable in all of the topics normally seen in this course.
I have taught Calculus at the college level and have tutored the subject to both college and high school students. I am familiar with the computational aspects of Differential and Integral Calculus including rules for differentiation, methods of integration, and applications such as related rates, optimization problems, area and volume. I am proficient with the theoretical aspects of Calculus including limits, continuous and differentiable functions, the Mean Value Theorem, the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, and infinite series.
I have taught Differential Equations at the college level. Included in the course were:
1. Methods of solving various types of First Order Differential Equations including Separable, Linear, Exact, and Homogeneous.
2. The procedure for solving higher order Homogeneous Linear Differential Equations, solving Nonhomogeneous Linear Differential Equations by the Methods of Undetermined Coefficients and Variation of Parameters.
3. Applications of First Order Differential Equations including Rate Problems and Problems in Mechanics.
4. Applications of Second Order Differential
Equations including Electric Circuit Problems and Vibration of a Mass on a Spring.
5. Numerical Methods for solving Differential Equations such as Euler's Method and the Runge-Kutta method.
6. Series solutions of Differential Equations including the method of Frobenius.
7. Solving systems of Linear Differential Equations.
I am knowledgeable in all topics that are covered in a typical Precalculus course including: functions and graphs, polynomials and rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, Trigonometry, trigonometric identities, trigonometric equations, applications of Trigonometry, Analytic Geometry, systems of equations and inequalities, sequences and series, and limits.
I am currently certified in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, and Geometry. The New York State Regents exams in these subject areas are basically final exams in these subjects. Consequently, certification in the subjects listed above is essentially equivalent to certification in Regents exam prep for the courses that I have listed.
I have taught Trigonometry at the college level and also have experience in tutoring the course at the high school level. I am knowledgeable with right triangle trigonometry as well as with the definitions of the circular functions.
I understand how to prove trig identities, solve application problems involving the Law of Sines or Law of Cosines, solve trig equations, and graph trig functions.
