St. John's University (Undecided)
Hello! My name is Shahanaj! I am currently enrolled at St. John's University and I am freshman. During my high school career, I took on an unpaid internship at a local tutoring center to help gain experience and obtain any new skills. During my time there, I learned many new things - the most important being that I love working with elementary school students. I interned there for about 2 years and it was an amazing experience. After interning there, the center director gave me an amazing opportunity to actually become one of the tutors there, landing me a part time job during high school.
Here are a few skills I picked up:
-Tutored students from grades K to 8.
-Instructed lessons for students.
-Helped to enhance students Mathematic and ELA skills.
-Helped with and explained student’s school homework.
-Helped to prepare students for any school exams.
-Assisted in giving students diagnostic exams.
-Collaborated with other interns and instructors.
-Promoted tutoring center through outreaching.
-Completed several office tasks.
-Maintained use of copy machine.
-Excelled at Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
English is a subject that I feel comes easy to me. It is also one of my favorite subjects. I took an AP course in high school - AP Language and Composition.
Tutoring elementary school students is something I have a lot of experience with. I helped assist so many of them for about 2 years and it is something I have come to love.
During my time at my internship, phonics is something I had to work on with Kindergartners and in some cases, First graders. It is a very repetitive activity where the students can sometimes lose focus on. But making the activity fun will always keep the students engaged.
I am looking forward to helping! Since I am a college student, my schedule can change from time to time based on midterm and finals. But for the most part. I am free from Mondays to Thursdays after 3pm. For more information on this, please do not hesitate to contact me. Hello! My name is Shahanaj! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have successfully tutored students from grades K to 8, and instructed lessons for students. My goal is to help enhance students' Mathematic and ELA skills. I explain school homework, help to prepare students for any school exam, and have assisted in giving students diagnostic exams.
I have worked with various Kindergartners and First graders that needed extra help with alphabets and handwriting. This included sounding of letters, differentiating the lowercase and uppercase letters, sounding out words and etc.
