About Dominic

Hi, Everyone! Want to learn how to speak, read, and write the beautiful Japanese language? Need help solidifying your English grammar skills? Interested in working with someone on music theory, junior high or high school math, or art-related projects?

I'm your man!

Why choose me as your tutor?

I have more than ten years of experiencing teaching dance, English language and grammar, and beginner and intermediate Japanese to children and adults in both the United States and Japan.

I speak, read, and write fluent Japanese and have passed the highest level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. I also worked for six years as a Coordinator for International Relations in a Japanese government office conducting the majority of my work in Japanese. Through this position, I've strengthened my ability to work with a variety of age groups and cultures to communicate an array of subjects and concepts.

A self-proclaimed "Grammar Hammer," I love working with people on writing and the intricacies of English grammar. Many of my colleagues and classmates have relied on me to proofread essays, thesis papers, contractual documents, and other written work.

Can I do the same for you? Absolutely!

Shoot me a message, and let's get the learning party started!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Japanese

I speak, read, and write fluent Japanese and have passed the highest level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (Level N1). I also worked for six years as a Coordinator for International Relations in a Japanese government office conducting the majority of my work in Japanese. Through this position, I've strengthened my ability to work with a variety of age groups and cultures to communicate an array of subjects and concepts.

Volleyball

I have played competitive volleyball since high school (starting in the 1996-1997 school year), including junior varsity and varsity teams, college intramural teams, and club teams both in the United States and Japan. At present, I play in Division 3 of Gotham Volleyball (low advanced/USAV B/BB levels) and have coached beginner, advanced beginner, and low intermediate teams in the league for four seasons. Three of these teams went on to win medals both during the season and the end-of-season tournament. I am also a NAGVA-certified referee and am very familiar with the rules of the game.
