About Margaux

I've done tutoring on and off for about six years with a variety of age groups that range from elementary school to high school. I have a passion for advocating and supporting my students during these very sensitive and formative years. I don't just believe in hitting those academic standards but also developing self-esteem, confidence, and a love for learning. I truly believe that every student has the potential to do well in school and develop a passion for learning.

In the past I have worked for multiple after school programs, including the YMCA, The Jamestown Community Center, and Extreme Learning. All of these experiences involved designed and facilitating after school programming to provide extra support in academics and social skills within a group setting and one-on-one. My most recent experience has been as a mentor for a program called IndyKids where I provide one-on-one assistance to children who write for the IndyKids newspaper. I personally flourish the most in the one-on-one tutoring setting because I feel like I can really build a relationship with the child and really come to understand his/her needs better.
I studied Psychology in college and have worked for many social service organizations, therefore I have some knowledge about child development, family dynamics, peer counseling, and advocacy.

A little bit about me:
I'm originally a Northern California native from the San Francisco Bay Area. I lived in San Francisco for five years and moved to New York in 2012. I am a lover of urban culture and take in whatever this city has to offer. My passion is to teach college and publish a novel. My interests include reading, creative writing, journalism, traveling, and fine art.

If you choose me as your tutor, I will be sensitive and attentive to your child's academic and emotional needs within the context of their age range and personality. My skills include creative writing, journalism, essay writing, reading comprehension, English literature, grammar, vocabulary, and fine arts.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
