In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Since June 2014, I have served as an Academic Program Lead and 6th Grade Teaching Fellow for the Citizen Schools expanded learning time program at Global Technology Preparatory, a low-income blended learning middle school in East Harlem, NYC. I teach daily Mathematics Intervention classes for 6th grade students, as well as lead daily Guided Reading instruction for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. Additionally, I work with key administrators and faculty to design and execute Math and English Language Arts (ELA) Intervention curricula that are aligned to Common Core standards for the 6th grade.
