I am an experienced educator in multiple fields. My purpose is to create a student-centered working relationship that builds on previous lessons, enables students to think critically and creatively, and develop their skills all-around. I want students to be as excited about learning as I am, and will give them all the energy they give me. Learning is an ongoing process, for both the student and the teacher, and I aim to impart that to students so they are able to handle any task given to them. My focus is on performing arts education, both fine tuning arts skills and how they can help students in other subject areas. Lesson plans will usually include elements of arts lessons in order to further students knowledge and examine subjects from as many angles as possible to better knowledge and learning. I will work with students on all plans so the process is built from their knowledge and experience as well as my own.
I have a BM in Music Education from Westminster Choir College of Rider University, where I focused on using multiple learning methods to teach music. I have an MA in Educational Theater/Integrated Arts from New York University where I focused on teaching theater, using theater techniques to teach other subject areas, and using a combined arts curriculum for arts classes, general subject areas, and building community/student confidence. I am Certified in Music and Theater in NJ, which is currently expired (can be renewed easily.) I am eligible for Certification in both NY and PA. I have roughly 4 years of professional experience teaching and tutoring. I am an experienced educator in multiple fields. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
While in college and graduate school, I spent a great deal of time exploring options for teaching to students with learning disabilities. I took extra classes in special needs education, and spent six months in a Mixed First grade classroom which had general education and special needs students in order to further my understanding of working with students with ADD/ADHD, among other special needs. I also have extra knowledge gained by living with two family members who had severe ADD. My sister was diagnosed at age 8. We spent time both at home and attending workshops with her psychologist as a family throughout her time in K-12 grade to help her find coping strategies and do better. My husband also has ADD and did his Master's of Psychology thesis on the subject, and I helped him by offering an educational perspective, and he has imparted a great deal of knowledge to me on the psychological implications. I understand it takes a great deal of patience, and very much enjoy helping students who need the extra help.
I have a Bachelor's of Music in Music Education. I spent all four years studying music theory and the elements of music composition. I am highly skilled in studying and combining elements of music for the purposes of beginning composition.

I am familiar with NYS and NJ elementary education standards in all subject areas, and have developed methods to help students develop their skills and increase their knowledge.
As a trained musician, actor and educator I am highly accustomed to performing in front of an audience. Public speaking skills are very similiar to acting skills, and I always include that in acting and singing classes. I have built Public Speaking curricula and use the important techniques in beginning acting classes. I have multiple methods and a great deal of experience at my disposal to help train students in these techniques, regardless of the subject matter.
Good speech skills are very similiar to good acting skills. As a trained educator and actress, I have spent a great deal of time including techniques involved in speech in my curricula. I have worked with friends and students to help them be more confident when giving presentations, speeches, public readings, and various other venues. I am trained in effective speech techniques, breathing for speaking engagements, and proper speech organization.
I have a degree in Music Education with an emphasis on Voice. I studied voice professionally for 6 years, putting particular emphasis on singing in multiple musical genres. I am highly qualified in hearing and correcting vocal imperfections, breathing, and good vocal technique for the health of the voice.
