Hello! I am a professor of English literature in the CUNY system, and have over a decade of experience teaching/demystifying the art of literary composition and analysis! Students are often drawn to literature because they are told that they are free to interpret texts in a number of ways, but then find they have difficulty achieving consistently good grades on their writing assignments. What's lacking, I have found, is an approach to reading & writing that provides students with concrete ways to approach their assigned reading and writing. My approach to literature is rooted in such concrete practices, and aims to empower students and provide them with the tools to enjoy the reading and writing process more and to excel while doing so!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
