About COURTNEY

Hi! My name is Courtney and I want to be your next tutor for your science, reading, NCLEX, NLN, or nursing courses. I love tutoring and most importantly, I like to make learning FUN! Not only will you have a better understanding of the information, but gain valuable learning skills to use after our study sessions are over as well. My goal is to make strong, independent students who can carry on success semester after semester without needing to heavily rely on further tutoring. I am willing to work with both individuals and groups. Invite me to your next study group and become more prepared for your upcoming test! Let me give you the confidence and tools to perform well in your classes.

I am a 2010 Cum Laude nursing graduate from Pace University and a 2007 Cum Laude Speech Pathology and Audiology graduate from Syracuse University. I passed the NCLEX with 75 questions in 90 minutes. I have previous experience teaching high school level biology lab and currently I also tutor the junior/senior students of Hunter University school of Nursing.

One hour minimum lesson length policy. All students meet at my apartment in Astoria or online via Skype/Facetime. It is up to students to maintain responsible practices regarding keeping track of agreed upon appointments. No reminder emails or texts will be sent by me before appointments. Please read both my student expectations and my cancelation/no show policy carefully!!

Student Expectations:
A. I anticipate students who use my tutoring services to prepare by:

1. Going to class, listening attentively, taking notes and asking questions to clarify misunderstandings. If you missed a class you are responsible for getting notes or reviewing the material before coming in.
2. Reviewing notes, practicing problems and reading their textbooks.
3. Attempting problems on their own before seeking help.
4. Preparing several specific questions regarding their course material.
5. Knowing what they want help with and what they want to accomplish.
6. Making a genuine effort to do the work prior to coming to a session.
7. Bringing their pencil or pen, paper, textbook, notebook, current assignment, and any necessary notes or previous work to the session.

B. Students who use my tutoring service should expect me to:

1. Listen attentively and carefully.
2. Help them identify difficulties they are having and develop strategies for addressing them.
3. Help them identify and use the strengths they have to master difficult material.
4. Help them work toward a genuine ability to solve problems and arrive at correct answers on their own.
5. Give them time to work independently during the session.
6. Help them learn successful study strategies
7. Refuse to assist unprepared students and ask that they review specific material before returning.

C. Students who use my tutoring service should know that:

1. Tutors do not have all the answers and not are professors. Keep in mind that your professors are available to help you during their office hours.

Great tutor.

I’m a nursing student who was having difficulties with Pharmacology. Courtney helped me not only with understanding the material but to develop better study skills. I’m grateful for this because nursing school is not easy and I was drowning in the workload. Thanks to her, I not only saw an improvement in my grades in pharmacology but an improvement in grades with all my other classes. She made me
