About Lisa

Hi!

My grandmother started to teach me to sew when I was about 4 years old.
I never stopped.

Decades later, I still sew. I sew dolls and their clothes, costumes for adults and children
in or out of the theater, quilts, home decorating, and bridal. Once in a while, I even find time to repair my own hems.

I have studied costume design, working for several years as a stitcher for The Costumer, a large regional costume rental company. I have taken classes in tailoring and pattern drafting.

I'm on the board as costume & properties chairperson of the Schenectady Theater for Children. I have costumed numerous theater productions with area theater companies in the Capital District. For Schenectady Light Opera, (props for "Anne of Green Gables")and for Proctors (props for Christmas show and "Hearts on Fire") Designed and costumed "Irma Vep"
for Curtain Call Theater. Designed and costumed "Alice in Wonderland" "Pinnochio" and "Bremen Town Musicians" for Schenectady Theater for Children. Assisted in costuming "Phantom of the Opera," costumed "Into the Woods," "Steel Pier, and "Pajama Game" for Guilderland Players.

Taught "Alice in Wonderland" themed classes at Heldeberg Workshop, for 2nd and 3rd graders. We learned about playwrighting, acting, props and costumes. We had fun playing flamingo croquet and making mad tea party hats.

Also have taught after-school beginning sewing classes and private adult sewing instruction.

Currently, I am working on revising a script for a puppet production of Punch & Judy show that was originally produced in 1992, with a New York State Arts Decentralization Grant. We hope to perform this new show later this November.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Sewing

I worked the Costumer for a theatrical rental company in Schenectady, NY for abut five years. I also worked in the production department as a stitcher (costume construction, repair and alterations).

In addition, I have aught after-school classes and summer workshops in sewing, theater and stagecraft for elementary school-aged children.

My supplemental income comes from various home decoration projects, wedding dresses and alterations, doll and puppet-making. I have taken classes in sewing, tailoring and pattern drafting.

Theatre

I am active in area community theaters as an actor, costumer and playwright. Currently, I work as the Costume and Props Chairperson for the Schenectady Theater for Children. In the past, I have worked for Proctors in the box office and as a props coordinator for several productions, including Hearts of Fire and the Christmas show. I'm also very pleased to say that I've actually been paid to act.
