Teaching children to read, write, and solve mathematical problems is my passion. I am a professionally certified Early Childhood and Childhood teacher. I have 11 years of teaching experience, including 6 years spent teaching 3rd grade. I am currently in my 4th year as a kindergarten teacher. My master's degree is in childhood education with a literacy emphasis. I have proven successes in helping struggling students learn to read and spell, as well as improve upon their existing reading skills, such as decoding and comprehension. Additionally, I am confident in my writing instruction across many genres from narrative to expository.
Recently, I have done a good amount of professional development in mathematical instruction. I have implemented best practices in my classroom of early learners, with great success. As an elementary teacher, I am also comfortable teaching science and social studies content, in addition to reading, writing and math. I enjoy working with all types of learners. My 3rd grade classroom was a special education inclusion room, where I worked closely with a special education teacher learning many methods and techniques to best meet the needs of my students. In addition to being a teacher, I have 2 children ages 14 and 17 which has provided me with great insight into child development, motivation, and overall learning styles of kids at different stages of childhood. I would love to help your school age child reach his or her academic potential! Teaching children to read, write, and solve mathematical problems is my passion. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was the general education teacher in a special ed inclusion 3rd grade classroom for 6 years. Many of my students were diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. Again, I have proven success with these students.
I hold NYS professional certifcations in both Early Childhood and Childhood. I have 8 consecutive years of teaching experience in the same district, where I am currently employed.
