About Reza

My tutoring approach is one of coaching, mentoring, and helping the student understand exactly what level and type of help is needed to prosper.
Combining my past experience as an educator internationally with my seventeen years of teaching experience at a US private school, provides me with the knowledge and skill set to identify, and creatively as well as efficiently address the educational needs of my students.

Specifically, I teach 8th to 12th grade high school mathematics, and high school physics. I am very well acquainted with the New York State Regents Examinations.
I am also very familiar with standardized high school courses, such as Honors Calculus and AP Calculus AB, and the scope of their respective examinations for undergraduate college credits. Additionally, I have a long history of teaching PSAT, SAT I (math section) and SAT II - Mathematics, ACT, GRE & GMAT (math sections).

Teaching the youth of our society has and always will remain of my foremost passions in life. I look forward to working with you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

Passing ACT exam with a competitive score gives the students a good chance and privilege for admission in high ranking universities, as well as receiving scholarship and financial aids.
On the contrary to SAT which is concentrating on math and english proficiency only, ACT covers a wider range of knowledge other than math and English such as science, chemistry, biology and a very diverse application of basic arithmetic and math in chemistry.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 is fundamental. It has its own techniques, bases and specific connections to other parts of math. To get strong in this course opens the door to other sections of mathematics in higher grades which is performed and applied by having an experienced and dedicated tutor.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 & Trigonometry are very important and play a significant role in preparing the student for advanced courses such as Pre-Calculus, Calculus and Calculus honors.

Calculus

Teaching a subject such as calculus is often considered its own reward. However, experienced teachers may desire the additional challenge of teaching Advanced Placement classes, to my opinion it is indeed a must.

During the past 25 years of teaching calculus in different countries I felt the dynamics of this subject parallel to progress of new technology and its adjustment to the needs of students as a strong and solid fundament of their fields in advanced higher education.

Common Core

I teach 8th to 12th grade high school mathematics, and high school physics. As head of the math department, I have been monitoring and advising my colleagues in implementation of the new Common Core test in the mathematics area. We have been reviewing and practicing samples of the tests in our preparatory departmental sessions.

Farsi

I am Iranian. I was born in Iran and completed my university degrees in Pahlavi University, one the very prestigious universities in the Middle East. I started to teach in that university at the beginning of my educational activity and educational life.
I have also passed the advanced grammar and literature courses in Farsi language that are mandatory in the freshman and sophomore year.

Geometry

I teach 8th to 12th grade high school mathematics, especially Geometry. As head of the math department, I have been monitoring and advising my colleagues in implementation of the new Common Core test in the Geometry area.

GRE

In my view, the GRE tutor should not just be someone who answers questions and provides instruction. He should think of himself as a consummate tour guide to the land of GRE, directing students to the best available resources, whether it is an official guide or an explanation to one of the questions in the official guide. In other words, the GRE tutor does not “follow” the student around during that student’s time in GRE land, but meets with them periodically to make sure the student is getting the most out of their trip to do this diverse strange country.

Prealgebra

Prealgebra is the fundament of high school mathematics. Strengthening in it is the right procedure in having a uniform and smooth coverage of higher math levels, Alge 1, 2 , Gemotry and Trigonometry and eventually preparation for College Prep. Courses such as Calculus and Statistics.

Precalculus

Pre-Calculus is advanced level of algebra 2 & Trigonometry. It is the fundamental course for Calculus Honors or Advanced AP Calculus AB/BC. It is a requisite and recommended subject.

PSAT

First of all, let`s understand what PSAT is.

The PSAT/NMSQT (or National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) is a preliminary version of the SAT. Not only does the PSAT help prepare students to take the SAT or ACT, a great score on the PSAT can also open the door to National Merit Scholarships and other awards. With $180 million dollars in scholarships awarded to students that achieve high scores on the PSAT, how the students perform on this exam can help them earn scholarship dollars that change the direction of your college planning. The PSAT is much more than a practice test.

I started teaching PSAT to my students almost the same time as I tought SAT. It was very valuable to prepare them achieving much better grades in SAT and I invested my energy and knowledge and all expertise in PSAT classes.

SAT Math

Passing the College Placement Exam with a good grade is very important since it saves time and it is financially beneficial during college. There are techniques and short cuts in doing the exam to achieve a high grade and to have a remarkable performance. Please allow me to help you in this regard.

SSAT

As a matter of fact, the SSAT is designed for students who are seeking entrance to independent schools worldwide. Its purpose is to measure the basic verbal, quantitative, and reading skills students develop over time—skills that are needed for successful performance in independent s?chools. The SSAT provides independent school admission professionals with meaningful information about the possible academic success of potential students at their institutions, regardless of students’ background or experience.

I have been teaching SSAT since Sep. 2000, when I started to teach in a tutoring institution in Long Island N.Y. I had very diverse range of students from different parts of world and this diversity gave me an opportunity of getting more familiar with different basic systems of their education and improve my knowledge and style to fulfill their needs.

Trigonometry

Algebra 2 & Trigonometry are considered as the fundamentals for Advanced Math PreCal and Calculus in junior and senior years. Having AP Calculus AB & BC in high school is considered credits for college period.
