Hello everyone, my name is Connor! I recently graduated magna cum laude from Saint Michael’s College with a B.S. in Business Administration and three minors in Creative Writing, Classics, and Philosophy. During my sophomore year at Saint Michael’s, my Latin professor encouraged me to become a class tutor to assist my classmates with learning vocabulary and grammatical structure. His calm and supportive approach to learning this complex language made me more interested in the language. That is how I try to help my students during tutoring sessions. For two hours each week, I would meet with a student in the library and assist them with homework and test preparation. The one-on-one interaction really helped the students focus on what they needed help with. By the end of the first semester, my boss requested that I help more students in Latin and also philosophy. Each semester following, I would meet with three to five students individually for two hours each week. Each student preferred a different approach to learning the content. Some students really enjoyed reviewing Latin examples and practice sentences. Others needed to review vocabulary and practice the grammatical structure of sentences. By the end of college, I assisted 15 students in Latin, philosophy, and business. Tutor in business wasn't until the end of my college career. Most of the students I worked with were in a one-on-one setting, however, I did have small group sessions with three or more students for test preparation.

The first semester of tutoring was also the first semester I became a writing coach. One of the English professors anonymously selected me to take a one semester writing coach course. Out of 100 applicants, only 15 were selected to take this course. I happened to be one of those chosen 15. The course was a review of basic English grammar, vocabulary, and syntax. In addition, we learned how to help students with different learning needs. These skills became handy when I worked in the writing center several hours each week. During my three years as a writing coach, I assisted 65 students with homework assignments and projects. Similar to the tutoring sessions, each client needed help with a different subject and different type of paper. At the beginning of the session, I would have the client read his or her paper out loud. The student and I would then review each paragraph and discuss what needed to be improved. After reviewing each paragraph, the student would read the piece once more to make sure the piece was strong.

I have three years of tutoring and writing coach experience in college. Many of my clients were international students learning English as a second language or clients with learning differences.
These differences included dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADD, and ADHD. After college, I continued tutoring 2 middle school students and 3 high school students. Most of these students needed help with test preparation for standardized tests and needed help with the core subjects (English, math, science, and social studies). The most experience I have as a tutor is with college students in a writing setting, however, I am more than happy to work with anyone that needs help in the subjects I have discussed.

Helping students is what is most important to me as a tutor. By finding the right resources and the right learning style, I know that each session will be successful. I will respond to any request within 12 hours of being notified. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or to schedule a session. I look forward to working with you!
