I have been working in the education field for almost 15 years. I have a love for teaching as well as learning. As a child I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. My older brother struggled in school with reason and writing and I found I really enjoyed helping him. That's where my interest in special education stemmed from.
I have an English literature degree as well as a masters in secondary English and special education. I have worked with many different students through the years who have had many different learning difficulties. For me education is not just about passing a test or writing an A+ paper, it's about the learning process and how to make these lessons apply to your everyday life.
I am currently a stay at home mom with two toddlers. I have also been tutoring privately for almost 3 years and really enjoy being able to work with a student one on one.
Through my undergrad work I was an English major allowing me to really fine tune my reading and writing skills. Since almost all my classes were ELA I have been able to find different techniques to improve writing and make it more meaningful for the students.
I have my masters in special education where my main focus was on ADD/ADHD. Also my husband and many family members have one of these so I have been around this my whole life which has allowed me to see many different forms and learn many different ways learning can be achieved.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
