About Manfred

Hello, I’m a research professional in mechanical and chemical engineering, and graduated from reputable universities in both Europe and the United States. I like teaching on a one-on-one basis because it enables direct, specific interaction in response to your unique way of thinking and learning. Having succeeded in guiding you to gain access to material through your own thought process gives me great joy and satisfaction!

I specialize in tutoring technical subjects, including math, statistics, physics, and chemistry. I have applied a variety of concepts from these subjects in my own career as a research engineer, which also is reflected in my approach of tutoring with a practical, application-oriented perspective. It is my goal for the sessions to develop your confidence and abilities to break down challenging problems to smaller, manageable tasks that can be solved more easily. While certainly relevant for your upcoming exam, sound problem-solving skills are essential for a successful career in most professions. To accommodate your personal learning style and needs, we will team up to define session contents and modalities, as well as frequencies of feedback and assignments.

I’m usually quite flexible with time and happy to travel to any convenient location within the listed travel range. Although I’d prefer quiet and comfortable study spaces, we can meet at any place that facilitates your learning.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or would like to set up a meeting. I’m looking forward to helping you achieve your goals!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I’ve had plenty of opportunities to help colleagues with Algebra 1-related questions during my high-school years, but Algebra 1 has also been at the foundation of my own work. It is an important subject with many applications in different fields of engineering and other professions. But it is also a fun subject that provides different kinds of challenges to exercise the brain and develop problem-solving skills.

Algebra 2

I’ve had plenty of opportunities to help colleagues with Algebra 2-related questions during my high-school years, but Algebra 2 has also been at the foundation of my own work. It is an important subject with many applications in different fields of engineering and other professions. But it is also a fun subject that provides different kinds of challenges to exercise the brain and develop problem-solving skills.

Calculus

The qualifications for tutoring for Calculus are rooted in both in-depth exposure during higher education as well as active utilization of Calculus topics in engineering research endeavors. I developed strong interest in mathematical topics such as Calculus during college studies in chemical and mechanical engineering. The knowledge and problem-solving skills developed through studies of Calculus served me well in developing superior solutions for a variety of challenging engineering and research problems. I’ve explained complex subject topics of Calculus to my colleagues as a class mate, fellow student, and coworker, which provided me with opportunities to identify and resolve challenges that a student of Calculus may face.

Chemical Engineering

The qualifications for tutoring for this subject are rooted in both in-depth exposure during higher education as well as active utilization of relevant topics in engineering research endeavors. Starting with my education at a technical high school, which concentrated on feedback control and electrical engineering, I developed a passion for math, physics, chemistry, all combining to form the foundation for engineering disciplines. My interest and dedication intensified during college studies, which I completed with master's and doctoral degrees in chemical and mechanical engineering. I finished in the top 5% of the class, but, more importantly, I had gained knowledge and problem-solving tools that served me well in developing superior solutions for a variety of challenging engineering and research problems. As a classmate, fellow student, and coworker I’ve explained complex subject matter to my colleagues on several occasions, providing me with opportunities to identify and resolve challenges that a learner may face.

Geometry

Geometry is an important subject with many applications in different fields of engineering and other professions. I’ve been actively using Geometry concepts in my own engineering work, for instance in the design of complicated equipment parts and in the development of computer algorithms.

German

I’m a native German speaker and lived in Austria for the first 25 years of my life. German was the primary language during my education at a technical university, from which I graduated with a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering. After coming to the US, I maintained high language proficiency through oral and written communication with family members, friends, as well as collaborators in Germany and Austria. In addition I occasionally read German news articles and literature.

Linear Algebra

My qualifications for tutoring for Linear Algebra stem from in-depth exposure during higher education as well as active utilization of Linear Algebra concepts in engineering research efforts. I’ve developed algorithms for numerical data processing that make extensive use vectors and matrices, as for instance in least-squares estimation of fitting parameters. I’ve helped colleagues and friends with challenging problems whose solutions are easily derived when applying Linear Algebra concepts.

Mechanical Engineering

My qualifications for tutoring for Mechanical Engineering are rooted in both in-depth exposure during higher education as well as active utilization of relevant topics in engineering research endeavors. Starting with my education at a technical high school, which concentrated on feedback control and electrical engineering, I studied introductory topics and foundations of mechanical engineering. During college studies, which I completed with a doctoral degree in mechanical engineering, I received further education including topics of machine design, stress and strain, fluid dynamics and heat transfer. I finished in the top 5% of the class, but, more importantly, I had gained knowledge and problem-solving tools that served me well in developing superior solutions for a variety of challenging engineering and research problems. As a classmate, fellow student, and coworker I’ve helped many of my colleagues in their studies of ME-related topics.

Precalculus

During my education I’ve had plenty of opportunity to help colleagues with Precalculus-related questions. With this experience I feel qualified for tutoring Precalculus and look forward to work on specific challenges that a student of Prealculus faces. In addition to college education in Precalculus, I’ve actively utilized subject matters in engineering research and design efforts. I’ve developed a strong interest in topics of Precalculus in my late high school years, and particularly like helping students to master this fascinating subject.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is a very important topic in particular for the physical sciences and engineering disciplines. As a research engineer I have applied Trigonometry concepts to solve different kinds of problems including analysis of electronic signals and design of mechanical components. Apart from in-depth exposure during higher education, which I completed with masters’ and doctoral degrees in chemical and mechanical engineering, I was able to help classmates and fellow students with their Trigonometry questions.
