My name is Elise, and I'd like to tell you about myself. I have been a tutor for three years, helping students with science, math, English, writing, and test prep. I have a bachelor's degree in math from a private, liberal arts university and a master's degree in information science from the University at Albany.
I specialize in helping students with math from elementary school to calculus. Many students are intimidated by math especially as they reach high school. My goal is to help them to understand the concepts and gain confidence in their skills, so that they can truly succeed and be prepared for college. Whether you are looking for a few sessions before Regents or more long term tutoring, I can help!
I also work with students to prepare for the SAT, PSAT, and ACT. These tests help determine a student's future. I provide strategies and tips for test taking and review the concepts tested by the SAT, PSAT, and ACT.
In addition to math and test prep, I also tutor students in physics. Many students view physics with the same fear as math and never understand the concepts. I help my students to realize that physics is the something they already know from their life experiences and can be one of their most enjoyable classes.
I am happy to travel to your home or meet in a local library, whichever is more convenient for you.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping your student achieve success. Hello!

She has helped my daughter feel more confident about her knowledge and skills, and has helped her feel less anxious about her big tests.
Elise is helping my daughter with ACT prep, particularly the Math portion. She has given my daughter confidence and skills, plus the knowledge that will help her improve her over all score.
Very engaged with student. My son is improving fast with keeping his head above the water and treading. She is an excellent teacher.
Elise had researched the math test that I am preparing for in order to obtain license in another state. She had taken a portion of the test in advance, had a working knowledge of the content, and had printed off worksheets to supplement the content on the tests. I was impressed with all the preparation she had done in advance prior to meeting me for our first lesson.
Thank goodness we found Elise! She has been a huge help with my daughter's physics. She's friendly, patient, and easy to work with! Plus, she knows everything!
Elise was working with my daughter to get her ready for the SATs. She worked with her on primarily the math and writing portions of the test to help strengthen her on her weak areas. She was very well-prepared, and she was very good at finding the best approach to explain the material despite the different types of material they were working on for the test. She was always very responsive when I wanted to schedule a session, or if I needed to change an appointment. I wish I had found her earlier to work with my daughter before she took the test the first time. I would highly recommend her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As an SAT tutor with three years of experience, my goal is to help students become more confident in their skills and arm them with knowledge of the concepts tested by the SAT. Every student, no matter their current math skills, can learn tips and tricks to make the math section of the SAT a breeze.
I know several test-taking strategies to help every student shorten reading time, eliminate wrong answers, and find the right answer faster. I can also help students capitalize on the vocabulary they already know, making the vocabulary questions some of the easiest on the whole SAT.
As an experienced SAT tutor, I know how difficult it can be to prepare for the SAT writing section. I can show you how to write to the test and demonstrate your mastery of writing to the graders. I can also help you with the grammar by giving you a few simple, easy rules to ace the writing sections.
As a veteran of more swimming lessons than I can remember as well as nine years of competitive swimming, I enjoy every second I spend in the water, and I love helping others to have the same fun I do. If your goal is to learn to swim for the first time, learn a few more strokes, or become more comfortable in the water, I can help you! I can also help more advanced swimmers stay in shape and improve their technique.
